hi there to everybody i would like to say that in todays world that we live in i find that its far to easy to get credit these days compare to the 1980s early 1990s banks and credit card companys today post juck mail and post we have a oan for you over the internet and even phone you up to see if you want a credit card whats stoping people today by saying yes and getting 10 credit cards and 5 loans and before they know it they £100.000 in debt and cant pay it back i think that banks and credit card companys out there should wake up and smell the roses and stop giving so much credit as this will stop people getting into debt what i would like to see is everybody having just one credit card with £3.500 credit limit on it and if you spend it go for a loan to pay it off and make the person with that card hand it back to the credit card company and they stop them from having credit until its pay of
does anybody agree with what i have said can andy davie help on this matter

Hi John
I would like to see automatic increases on credit cards stopped and minimum payments on new cards at 10% of the balance.
Credit cards allow you to spend money too easily.
We,the consumer need to spend less on cards and the banks need to lend less.
Regards

Credit is a big part of the world we live in today..and thats not going to change.

Credit is like alcohol..you can respect it ..or you can abuse it...and sometimes theres a very fine line between the two!![B)]

For info
as im BR the OR will not allow me to have a mobile phone contract, pay as you go is ok but not a contract phone - main reason being that if the phone was nicked and someone racked up a huge bill then technically the OR would have to deal with it while I am still in BR .. I am allowed to have BT but its up to BT to decide whether I pay monthly or quarterly .. go figure!
Regarding credit being to easy , yes it is ... but how do you feel about the govt limiting how much credit you can have or how many cars or how many houses etc .. people should have individual choice but be educated to understand the effects of their decisions.
Personally I think mortgages should be limited to X2 salary and that all loans should require a 25% deposit but hey .. thats just me.

I think you are on shaky ground dictating what people should and should not do. Clearly there is more scope for responsible lending and responsible borrowing, but I am not a fan of limiting options to be frank. More education at an early stage in people's formulative years about the dangers and costs of irresponsible credit usage would go some way to assist with the current debt problems we are facing in this country.

I used think loans are ok , as long as they are affordable .. then my wife left me .. less money... now Im a single dad ..then I was made redundant .. and took a job paying a lot less , to stay in the area and look after my child ...

**** happens !

Now .. Ive reverted back to the old ways .. budget better, save , be thrifty .

Despite the fact that I am in an IVA I received a letter the other day offering me a "Cash Loan" at an APR of 170%. Why do companies right to people in IVAs - its a waste of time and money.

I kept my mobile contract Mish - I only declared 'telephone' charges on my I & E and didn't specify it was a mobile. That wasn't me trying to pull a fast one (even I'm not that daft!) but it seemed logical to me, especially as I don't pay for the land line at home. I did ask my case worker at the OR's office if it was a problem for me to keep it and he said no. So far Vodafone haven't said anything, so fingers crossed they don't disconnect me!

Nice one skippy .. I told Vodafone that I was BR, they stopped the contract on the spot, gave me £1 credit toward my pay as you go .. but let me keep the same number. My other contract was t mobile - its for my daughter - the OR stopped that !

It looks like swings and roundabouts with you and me .. my bank account and your phone ..

What is interesting is the differences between OR's what they allow and dont etc ..

my hubby was allowed to keep his contract mobile phone, the OR didn't even mention it, but it might have been due to the fact he works away alot of the time, we haven't informed the company but have never missed a payment, they phoned us not so long ago asking if we wanted another phone on the same contract but we declined, i don't even use a mobile, and people laugh and say how can you not use one!!

I was honest with Vodafone as I had to ask them for a cheaper tariff - they found me the best one they could and threw some free text messages in as well! There is no consistency here!

I know what you mean about swings and roundabouts Mish - I think it depends on who you speak to, and what side of bed they got out of!
