Hi all

I have been getting some worrying emails from Abbey National, Nat West and Nationwide building Society.[:(]
I have never had dealings with any of the above and have no bank accounts with them. I will cut and paste a sample of the emails I have been getting below:

Abbey National Bank Plc

Security Alert: Your Abbey National Online Bank Account Has Been Disabled:

Dear Valued Customer,

We are plaeased to inform you, that your Abbey National Online Bank Account has been disabled. In order for you to gain access to your Online Bank Account, please Use the button below to Process and Get Unlimited Access on your Online Bank Account

There are then links to follow, which I have not done.
The messages are always held in my spam filter and I do not release them to my inbox anymore as they are always the same sort of thing as above or asking me to complete security checks.

I am a bit worried about this as have no idea how they have got my email address, and was wondering if anyone out there had recieved the same sort of things.

Should I be worried or not[?]

Thanks
Emma

Ignore them completely, they are "phishing" emails, a kind of fraud designed to get you to release your security details.

They got your email address because either it's published somewhere on the web, or alternatively someone who has you on their contacts list has a virus on their computer which sends details of all the email addresses held on that computer to the spammers.

I'm afraid getting spam is like getting rained on, it's going to happen to everyone at some point.

Thank you, I thought that might be the case.

It is just more annoying than anything else, but they don't even make it to my inbox anyway.

I suppose they send them to loads of people and if someone does have an account with any of them, a certain percentage of them people probably follow the links and compromise there account security[:(]

Thanks again
