I have an account with HSBC that they wont let me close. I have an overdraft amd loan with them and they are still trying to take the loan payment each month, with me getting charged everytime. I dont use this account anymore but they wont cancel the Standing order for the loan while the loan is outstanding. Pathetic really seen as they know i have no money.

Change accounts while you have the chance.
Steve.

Hi Steve,

Do you have an IVA? Will they still not let you close your account?

No im not in an IVA Trish. I was made redundant a week before my creditors meeting so had to cancel the proposal. As soon as i find work and settle into a job for a few months then i will have another proposed for me.

Just been to Co-Operative Bank to open a cashminder account, they lady took all my details and said she would have a decision in 5-10 days.Lily is this normal do you think? The lady was nice and said it would be fine but she did a credit check and said mainly I would get it once i have not committed fraud - which needless to say I havent:)
Thanks peeps,
Trish

I went into a branch Trish and they sent my paperwork off. I had to wait to hear, but I was accepted and I was BR at the time. If you don't hear anything give them a call - I didn't hear and when I phoned them I was told that I had been accepted but the computer hadn't generated me a card, paying in book etc. They were really quick though and I had it in a few days. I really can't fault the Co-op - they have been brilliant with me when I've had a couple of problems, and their customer service is second to none.

I wish I had known of this cashminder account..the Halifax Easycash was recommended to me and is fine, but I don't think it reports to the credit agencies like the Co-op one does.

I might change to that one when the IVA is up to try and get the credit rating built up again...no point in doing it now as I have not long finished sorting out all the direct debits etc!
Completion Certificate received September 2012.

Trish dont worry

As Skip said, its a waiting game for a few days but you will be accepted. They have to run fraud/ terrorism/ prove who you are in triplicate, type checks as this account is open to virtually everyone. I had to wait an extra day as it was bank holiday so I waited just days for my card, I had my pack thingy in four days, then the pin number came a couple of days after that. You will be fine, they are very nice, they even offered me a cup of tea.

PS

I also had HSBC and I cancelled my DD for the crefit card but they wouldnt let me cancel out the loan, so the sooner you can get your new account up and running the better.

I found it quite daunting having to open another account and was well relieved when it was done and dusted. I spent a whole day transferring my DD's and my incomes into the new bank and breathed a b***** big sigh of relief, knowing my money wouldnt be nabbed by HSBC.

Natwest wouldn't let me cancel my loan payment either - I tried but the reinstated it and charged me each month when it bounced!

HSBC really annoyed me.

We were maxed out on the overdraft, they wouldn't let us cancel the loan payment (I even tried transferring it across to the new bank, and then cancelling, but that didn't work either).

Every month they would take it out, put it back the next day and charge us £30!

We couldn't close the account because of that. They eventually did it when they sold the debt on.

I know I went to HSBC at lunchtime to see if they could help with overdraft and had to cancel most of my direct debits otherwise I would have been charged up to £250!!! They are happy to give money out but have no interest when you need help!!
