I am a single parent but work full time, my abusive ex partner left me with a lot of debts in mine name two years ago, total approx £38,000. Will an iva effect my credit history in the future the same as bankruptcy?

Hi
An IVA will stay on your credit file for six years from the date that it starts. After this period you should be able to get credit again.

Your IVA will show on your file for a period of 6 years as Andy says. After this point it will be taken off your file and you will need to build your credit file up from scratch if you so choose to pursue credit in the future. Remember having been bankrupt or having entered into an IVA will not have such an adverse effect on your ability to borrow on a secured basis even within the 6 year period.
