My little boy is turning 5 in 10 days time and 2 weeks before the school holidays started we sent out 15 invites to his party, which is booked for next Sunday.

Being in an IVA I have always put him 1st so that he doesn't miss out, and always save and plan ahead so he can have a birthday party and a nice presents. I also have put my 50% of my bonus (after giving the other half to my IVA) toward his party food, cakes, party bags etc so that everything would be perfect.

Well that is until we found out that only 2 people can be bothered to RSVP by the cut off date, which is today and we are going to have to cancel, as the minimum number has not been acheived. I can't contact anyone to ask if they are coming or not as I haven't got any details for them

I am not only dissapointed for him as he is heartbroken, but SO cross that the party venue deposit is non-refundable and so all my hard savings have just literally gone down the drain.

Why oh why can't people be courteous and RSVP or at least make the effort for 2 hours on a weekend to make a little boy happy. Sorry for the long rant, just feeling really let down [:(]

Oh what a shame. I would imagine it's the Easter Holidays that got in the way of the RSVP's. However no excuse.

I hope you little one enjoys his day nonetheless but I agree it's heartbreaking as a parent that this happens.

A pet peeve of mine as well SuperGert. Don't be apologetic for having a rant about it. I, as a child, was taught manners, I was taught that they in life and they alone are free. I do believe that a huge number of 'young parents' just don't think/care about the consequences of anything, including their and their children's actions.
Last Payment made 04/12/14. Completion Certificate 25/7/15. IVA company GT. No Issues

I so know how annoying this can be. I always rsvp the same day but not everyone seems to be concerned with good manners these days! Yet I'll bet those same people would be going mad if people didn't rsvp to them!

Perhaps with it being the hols people might have left their manners at school and still might show up?

The part venues near us usually demand you pay for a set amount of children too but to be honest if half didn't show on the day then they don't bother as they've been paid anyway.

Could you not keep the party on and invite some other friends of his that you can contact?

Really hope you manage to salvage it as after all your hard work the bad manners of others shouldn't ruin it for you and your little boy xx

Thank you everyone for you kind words of advice. Unfortunetly he doesn't have any other friends outside of school, and it would feel far too awkward to just have a total of 3, including him at a softball play centre party.

We are going to wait until Wednesday until we make the decision to cancel, as some people may reply late.

Fortunetly I have received a voucher code that allows an adult and a child aged 3-5 into legoland for just £8 each. I called up today to see if it would be valid for the date we want and they said absolutely yes and only need 24 hrs notice for booking confirmation. I can then use my clubcard vouchers to get a ticket for my husband, so we have a backup plan to give him a special day no matter what [:)]

Glad you've got something else sorted SuperGert.

Lack of manners is something that really bothers me. When we were arranging our wedding last year I had to chase up some people as they didn't seem to understand the hotel needed numbers for the catering!

Another thing that bugs me is people not saying thank you! It doesn't take much and it means a lot. Hubby's son got married last year and didn't send any thank yous for wedding gifts - I thought it was so rude.

Ah glad you've got a plan B sorted and legoland will be brill I'm sure!

I too can't stand rude people... it takes nothing to say please & thank you. I would never dream of not sending a thank you cards either. I make my little girl write them after every birthday and Christmas x

One of my grandsons (actually the oldest and youngest have the same birthday but youngest not at school yet) has his birthday in the summer holidays and it was always a nightmare as he wanted his friends there like his younger brother did but it was difficult as not being at school made definite yeses a problem. He now plays football so his team mates are easier to pin down. X
I know I am a good person, I just need to start believing it

Well wouldn't you just credit it.

2 days after the RSVP cutoff date and everyone starts sending me texts messages today saying they would like to come to the party!

At least it can go ahead now, as I hadn't cancelled the venue (phew) just another dilema now that my little boy was really excited about going to legoland!

Well at least it is a nice dilema to have and we can always go later in the year as the voucher is valid til October.

Geeze, I thought being in an IVA was going to be tough, but nothing in comparison to organising kids and parties [:D]

LEGOLAND can be something to look forward to. Hope he enjoys his party, good job you'd not cancelled the venue. x

I hope he has a lovely day, and don't get upset about the lack of replies until the last minute. As a primary school teacher for over 30 years this is very common these days, esecially if your child's birthday is in the school holidays. Have a lovely party now and look forward to Legoland in the summer.
Life after IVA is wonderful.
