Hi martina, welcome to the forum, try the Co-op Cashminder account, this is excellent, quite a lot of people recommend it and I have one myself. You have internet access and its widely accepted. Good Luck
Co-op are good and I believe Barclays will do a basic account as well.
Did Yorkshire tell you why you had been turned down? It's not always a case of bad credit rating, it might be something as simple as not being on the electoral roll and if you appeal they will sometimes change their mind.

I've just looked at the NR current account and it says it's available to all permanent UK residents over the age of 16 - this could be very useful for anyone with poor credit.
One to add to the list? Be interesting to hear from posters as to how they got on with NR with a basic account.
