My new I & E is due soon and I am hoping someone can help with:

Claiming for food allowance for my son who is nearly 15. Is that budgeted as a child or an adult, because he certainly eats more than I do, not to mention being at that age where he appears to be in the shower every 5 mins pruning himself..... :)

And, if your original I & E did not include certain items, lets say Household repairs, can you include them in a later year?

Thanks,
I can now do without.....

A 15 year old is still a child as he's in FTE. In fact, you can still claim for children up to the age of 19/20 if they're in full time education and you're receiving child benefit as they are still financially dependant. However, if your son leaves school and gets a full time job, then they're no longer financially dependant (in theory). I have a 20 year old who works full time and still relies on the bank of mum!

Hi getdebtfree, we are with the ccccs now "stepchange" and to be honest when it came down to the budget we were able to put down everything we actually spent our money on. We did not try to be careful with the figures and we did not try to max everything out!!

As i think many times on here we have said for your IVA to work you need to be able to live off a fair budget especially with children.

As for your comments about hard working and your money not going very far, your opening up a big can of worms!! I could not agree any more with you. We are just Taxed far too much in this country. The MP's will come out with all this crap about i put an extra £1.75 in everbodys pockets " IN REAL TERMS" it just gets right up my nose. Taxed too much, too many people taking out of the pot and not putting any thing in,the rich getting richer and the working class just getting b***** slaughtered.

Who can we trust to run the country? Maybe people who have actually worked for a living and live in the real world.

Sorry about the rant, hope you get your budget sorted.

Hi Baldy Yes we are just over taxed underpaid.....and yes all the other things we could talk about regarding benefits etc ......would be a long thread and plenty of people to chime in..

Just as an example I am the sole earner in the family right now as my wife lost her job and during the IVA she is hoping to retrain to do a job to work around the kids or from home..we have no family to help us so she cant do a regular 9 - 5

But my example

I earn £325 quid a week as a postman

there are six of us and bar anything else we get ie tax credits and child benefit

Rent and food alone

rent is £150 a week
food can cost £130 a week and sometimes more

Thats £280 a week

my wages are £325 a week

gas/electric we pay £140 a month

does that not show how overpriced just the basics are, to keep a roof over the head, keep warm and fed..

we are the lucky ones as I have a half decent job I think, others have to pay way more in rent I dont know how people cope.

This is why we ended up in more debt and in a IVA as we started borrowing just to live..

even with out doing overtime which I cannot do at the moment as most would go to the IVA..Im still getting into work early yet finishing much later because of big changes at work.

So hardly see the kids as there is so much more to do when I get in from work.

Life sucks I wish I had done better at school and had a better job for a nicer standard of living.

But hey at least I have a job, my family and a roof over our heads.

Just wish things werent so dam expensive

cheers

Marcus

Hey Marcus, just reading your post i can tell your a worker and not a sherker.

Things are tough all round for most people sadly, but you have to hope that things will get better in the long term and they will for the people who put the most in.

I have done some really bad jobs over the years and have paid the price for it, but have you ever thought of maybe changing jobs? I know its difficult but my mates took the pi*s out of me for so long because i was always changing jobs and then one day i had some luck and landed a really good job.
You always have to keep looking or even thinking about re-training HGV?

It is tough when you have no family help like baby sitters etc we are in the same position but just keeping a roof over your head and bringing up your children in the right way, encouraging them to do well at school, and just being a good set of parents takes a lot of hard graft. So give yourself some credit for that Marcus. Remember anybody can have kids, its about bringing them up the right way and being there for your children.

When you have finnished your IVA you will be debt free and on the up and up.

Yeah if we got into the running of this country or should i say lack of, there will be too many posts to read!!!!!

Good luck to you and your family.

Baldy & Family. [:)]
