Hi
Just for info the time restriction will be lifted shortly so you will be able to access your money earlier. There will also be internet banking shortly.
I have been with them for three years and its been the best decision that i,ve made. All bills, mortgage etc have been paid on the button as I,ve been unable to access this money.
regards
Andy Davie

I work nights tend to not sleep well first night after finishing evn though dont sleep much that day.
Was just interested about gp I would like internet but as they say its coming soon. At least the debit card is a bonus. I was going to get a pre paid but though a rise in the cost of the ac would still be cheaper than a pre paid. Just received mine yesterday, just a bit nervous about how accepted maestro is, but is going to be much easier than always having to take cash out for shopping etc I think you tend to spend more that way as you always have to take that bit extra to save embarassment at the till.

As I said I found GP very pushy, and they have done nothing to change that view since my last post! They phoned me again at the end of last week, and I told them I couldn't talk to them, and no, they couldn't ring me the following week as I would be away. Although I had my mobile I wanted to get away from everything. Guess who I had a phone call from? Yes, Nick from Gregory Pennington! I very politely told him that I had asked him not to call me, so why had he, and pointed out that I would ring him when it was convenient for me, so would he please not call me again. Touch wood I haven't heard from him since!

The problem is I don't want to upset them too much as I might need an account with them when I am made BR! Fingers crossed Co-op will take me as I really object to paying £12.50 a month.

Onwards and upwards!!!

Hi
I know that most people object to paying a fee for a bank account but the reality is that in a few years "free" banking will no longer exit.
The plus side of Gregory Pennington is that you will never pay MORE than £12.50 as you cannot go overdrawn, also if there is not sufficient funds in your account they don,t charge fees to"bounce" the direct debit[I,ve not come accross any other bank that does that]
My son has an account with loyds TSB and has gone over his £150 overdraft limit twice this month by £10 and now has a £60 charge to pay plus interest and a monthly account fee.Over the last two months he will have paid over £100 in fees etc.

Hi there
Also with GP you now have a debit card ( only for funds in ac ) but if you were to get a pre paid it would cost you probably at least 4 to 10 pounds a month depending on how you use it ,and as neverending says no charges as the monthly fee covers you for those.

I know this is not related to the topic but you mentioned your son being charged over £100 in bank charges. Has he tried claiming those back? I have started a claim against my old bank and have had an offer of 2k (6 year's worth) which I have rejected as I am aiming to get the full amount. Once that is sorted I will use the money to pay off a flexi loan and then claim the charges from them also. After that, well my current bank for the period I had a current account with them. I have opened another basic account just in case they choose to close down the account. Have a look on the BBC website, look for unfair bank charges, info and template letters are easily available

I am about to enter an IVA and have been advised by CCCS that it would be wise to open a basic bank account before going too much further.

However, I have applied to Nationwide (Basic - Flexaccount) and Nat West (Step) and have been declined by both. I have no CCJ's, defaults or bankruptcy background as yet, although my credit rating is pretty poor.

Can anyone advise me how one goes about getting a basic account with a 'High Street' bank whilst I have a poor credit history, when I am obviously not requesting further credit.

Have read about ThinkBanking.......does anyone have any experiences in dealing with this company, favourable or otherwise !

Any guidance from anyone would be most helpful

Hi May I am with think banking and have had absolutely no problem with them. In fact they are the best thing since sliced bread as far as I am concerned. Always someone nice on the end of the phone. There are a few on the forum with this ac does not matter what your debt situation is they accept anyone.
Any thing else please ask.
Obviously only my opinion but have seen others happy as well.

Despite my initial misgivings I have now opened an account with Think Banking (being BR I struggled to find another account!) and so far I cannot fault them - the paperwork was with me within 2 days, and the debit card and pin number were with me within 2 weeks of the first phone call. I still really begrudge the £12.50 per month though, especially as I only have 2 direct debits for them to manage!

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

Hi
I have been with think banking,08456343499,for over three years now and even though my IVA has finished I am remaining with them.
You will have no problem getting accepted and you will get a maestro debit card. The £12.50 monthly fee is well worth spending because there is no danger of getting charged any other fees.

Nationwide will definately accept you if you apply in person at a Branch.

I have a Basic accoutn with Cashcard and Internet Banking for DD's and SO's etc. Works fine for me.
