Washing Machine Rental

Hi, my washing machine has broken down beyond repair and we cannot afford to buy a new one outright and as I am in an IVA am not allowed/nor would want to get one on credit so would I be allowed to rent one? What are my chances of being accepted as I am already a year into my IVA?

Any feedback will as always be gratefully received.

Best to ask your IP if you can miss next month's IVA payment to purchase a new one. Washing machines these days start at £200 brand new. Do you have a household maintenance budget as part of your allowable expenditure. I like to see about £30 per month allocated to this, to cover such items as electrical applicance breakdown, and this is rarely rejected by creditors.

Thanks Andy and Melanie. I have been allowed to miss 2 IVA payments already when my husband was redundant and our terms only allow for 2 to be missed in the term of the IVA. Our original budget did not allow for a contingency amount each month and we tried to add one into our budget for our annual review but our IP was not prepared to put in a variation to lower our monthly dividend (which given my husband's drop in wages we would have needed to do). I will keep a lookout for second hand machine and have also tried our local Freecycle group where there are a couple of possibles. I have also contacted my IP with regards to renting a machine if we have no luck sourcing a second hand one. I have found a couple of rental options for £2.50 per week but not sure if we would be accepted given our credit rating!

Ebay is a goood source and you can narrow your search down to within 10 miles of your house.
You should be able to pick one up for less than £50

Just thought I would give an update on the washing machine problem. I have found a machine and have first refusal on it for £50 and sold my old broken machine for £30 spares/repair. So my new machine is only costing me £20. Thanks for all the good advice as always. Katx

Hi i rent mine £10 a month and the good thing is if it breaks down they come out and repair it free of charge,so in the long run it saves money ive had it 2 years and have had a new drum and new door boot and if we had had to find the money for callout and parts it would have been very expensive.

I have insurance on my washing machine have done for years costs £8 a month(allowed for in Iva expenditure)its saved me a fortune every year something major has gone on it and theyve fixed it for free and if it becomes unrepairable they pay for a new one,seems to me a win win situation.

Good news that you found a washing machine for £50. Also that you managed to sell your old machine for £30 for spare/repair. Was that on ebay or to a shop? (just owndering for future reference)

Have you tried logging onto freecycle website as they are often a good source of appliances that are unwanted etc The usual equiette of the site is the offer something first and then you can take and it lists all sorts?

Just make sure use calgon washing tablets if you live in a hardwater area
