Hi,
I hope you don't mind me coming onto ytour forum - i found it by chance, the usual trawling the internet for info on IVA!
Basically I am currently setting up an IVA with my husband - we have the creditors meeting on Monday morning - god I am so so nervous!
I think what i am most worried about is it not getting off the ground, and the 'what then...'.
We own a house - have a child who is settled at school etc, so no way is bakcruptcy an option.
We were in a DMP for about a year and a half, but realised that we would be paying off for years, and also creditors would come chasing.
My IP says they are confident it will be accepted, but I keep thinking why would they, they won't get what I borrowed etc.
I just want Monday to come and them say yes, and we pay it off over the next 5 years.
I would also like to be able to answer my home phone again, and open post without that feeling of dread!
Any replies with words of encouragement would be greatly received!!![:)]
K.

hi, and welcome to the forum. Its quite normal to feel like this before your creditors meeting. What you have to understand is that your IP must be confident that it will be approved otherwise he wouldn't be putting the proposal forward. I'm sure everything will be fine for you, and good luck for monday. I can remember feeling exactly the same as you are now before my meeting. Which IVA company are you with?

Hi Kal you will get loads of encouragement here. I was the same and found the site when almost at my creditors meeting. I was a bit computer shy and didnt post, but reading everybody elses, and knowing there were others in the same situation with the same feelings that I was having, was great reassurance and helped me a great deal.
The time will soon hopefully be there when you wont have to dread the phone or the postie.
All the very best for your meeting on monday, nerves are usual, I kept really busy with the house, I remember being in overdrive, I can hardly remember it. Keep us informed and ask anything you want.

Thanks for the quick reply!
I am going through McCambridge Duffy - they were recommended to me by our DMP - they seem ok, and have been very friendly etc.
Trouble is how do you know they are any good?
Like you say they want paying so I'm sure they will do all they can.
I think the worst bit is the fact that we haven't paid anyone for a couple of months - although we are in bad debt I have always prided myself that we paid in someway - but now we haven't I kinda think that will go against us on monday - surely they know that we have been advised to stop paying though?

Kal it is quite the norm to not pay anything and the creditors do know that it wont affect anything. It is strange not to though we had struggled and struggled to keep up and it was strange to stop.

The forum is a great release for that. If you just feel like a moan you have one. Read my blog and you will see I veer off frequently into a rant about washing machines and daughters getting stuck abroad lol It made me feel so much better.

I have just been looking round the forum and it has given me a little heart already - all i can do is wait for Mondays outcome and then pray that they all vote in my favour (or don't vote!).

Oh wow, so many replies!
It's funny as when I am out and about i often look around and wonder who else is in bad debt and has an IVA - you always think you are the only one, but these forums are proof that you are not alone in any way.
Well let's hope on Monday i can come on with offers of champagne all round (obviously cheap stuff - need to watch the pennies...LOL!).

Hi

Govt figurs say that 30% of households can't pay their monthly payments. That is almost 1 in 3 so absolutley guaranteed that someone along your street / place you work / childrens parents / family etc etc are in the same boat.

Perhaps the only difference is that you have done something about it whereas they might be still in the denial stage.

Well done for getting on the forum.

Hi Kal, welcome to the site, and good luck for Monday. We are still in the stages of gathering info to propose an IVA.I have been visiting the site for a couple of months, when i guess we were still in the denial stage, robbing Peter to pay Paul etc and i have to say that this forum, and all the wonderful people who post on it, gave us the guts to seek help. There is also a friends section if you just fancy a chat about things other than debt. It's great to take your mind of things even for just a while.Look forward to hearing from you and once again good luck xxx
