I have already discussed it wit the council housing folk, they have 3 lists
1) Homeless
2) nearly homeless
3) no chance

Currently Im on list 3
If I go to list 1 ) I have to turn up at the town house and they will put me and daughter into a hostel .
Mush better to get on list 2, and hopefully find somewhere before reaching list 1 ..

Im getting dizzy again

Well good luck

At least a year will hopefully be long enough to get something sorted, a bit of breathing space which I am going to appreciate if i go down this route and of course no reason to decorate this year

Your bank account will only be frozen temporarily, but do make sure that there is little money in it at the time of your bankruptcy hearing. Neither the Official Receiver or the bank will want to see you suffering hardship, and soon you will have a new bank account to receive your salary and pay your bills.

Hi Mish

With regard to the Council they have a duty to investigate your homelessness but that duty doesn't come into force until you are threatened with Homelessness within 28 days, so you are unlikely to get to list 2 until then - List 1 actually means roofless. So don't be worried if they are not to concerned about your potential homelessness at this stage - I can tell you with a 14 year old daughter you are in priority need - You also need to establish a connection in the area - You seem to have this already (Must have lived in the area for either 6-12 months prior to becoming homeless - Each Council will have a different policy) the 3rd test is did you make your self intentionally homeless - The Council will want to know why you have to sell your house and why you went bankrupt but usually they accept that you are not intentionally homeless, in BR cases. In any case if they do Social Services have a duty to house your daughter but no duty towards you.

If you need more info then let me know
Best wishes

Thanks Rainbow,
I have read much on here about how hard it can be to get a private rental after BR, with credit checks, 6 months deposits etc .
Coming from the north I sort of have a misplaced belief that council housing is just that , houses /flats rented by the council, I would rather have an accountable landlord and security than relying on the commercial private market. In fact I would be happy to pay market prices for a council hoose ..
I just wish 'they' would drop the term social housing, its derogatory ..
Im 53 so getting a mortgage isn't viable on my wages - I work for the local police force as a civvie, I have lived/worked in the area for 17yrs , and am happy to rent but would like security.
Hopefully new new labour & Gordon Brown can get more councils homes built.
Rant over .

Hi Mish
The term Social Housing is being phased out to Affordable housing! It is unlikely that the Council will build but give land/money to a Housing Association to build new houses at Market rents - Over the years Council's have done away with their development teams as the Government aimed money from the Housing Corporation to Housing Associations - You will still have security of tenure the same as a Council but the Right to Buy is higher in terms of cost than Council's.
