So I went to sign up for some new internet at home and I was about to click purchase when I saw the big "ok for us to check your credit report" button". I know more agencies check this than I realise at times but ive dropped other services to afford this. This isn't a credit aggrement after all so I shouldnt get in trouble right?

You know the saying ..if in doubt. :)

I'm not sure whether a virgin contract is credit - I can't remember if you terminate the agreement whether you have to pay the whole amount. Someone else will clarify I'm sure. In the meantime if it's not credit you're fine. If it is credit it sounds like you haven't started it yet so still time to get permission from your IP.

I think you are usually tied in for twelve months - you are with Sky and BT.

On the other hand I have not heard of anyone being denied a contract whilst in an IVA.

When I completed my IVA we were allowed to keep our sky package, but we were only allowed the basic package costs in our expenditure, if we wanted the full package we had to find the funds for the rest by cutting back on some of the other allowances. Not sure if this will help or not, but thought it worth mentioning.

Hmm ok ive only applied for rolling monthly contracts with companies since the iva. like gym , and Playstation +. So a year contract may be different. I had a sky contract when i started IVA which ive since ended. this would replace that. On other hand , probably less hassle just to get it in my parents name :)

We kept our Sky package and also managed to keep some extra's by cutting back.

If your parents can put it their name it might be best to do that.

We were allowed to keep our existing Virgin package during our IVA, we also renewed our Virgin mobile contracts several times without issue.
Last Payment made 04/12/14. Completion Certificate 25/7/15. IVA company GT. No Issues

We swapped when moving in our iva between sky and virgin with no issues. They do do a check but it doesn't appear to have impacted their decision. All I would say with Virgin is they start off cheap and slowly and quietly they get expensive ... mind you Sky appears to have done that too recently !

I'm not sure about Virgin as never had it but Sky you can renegotiate your package every year and ask for current offers, they do not advertise this but it's clearly marked on my calendar as an annual event for me.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

good luck Luluj, each year I just ring up and say what offers do you have to retain me as a customer and they always offer me something. Like you I'd go without a good deal.
