I have just started my IVA and want to join the gym near my house. It's only £11.99 per month with a £20 joining fee. Will I be allowed?

I doubt it would be included in your allowances, but if you can fund it from those already agreed I doubt there'd be a problem.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014

If you can afford to fund it from savings from your allowances then yes, you can join.

Speak to your IP...you may find they can include it in your allowances.

I don't think you would be allowed to include this in your allowances. It's more a luxury than a necessity.

I have asked to include an allowance towards my yoga practice (50%) as it helps with medical conditions and since starting I have been able to reduce my reliance on medication for both migraines and back problems.

I don't know if it will be allowed though...I suspect not!!!

If it's for medical reasons then I don't see why not. If it's just for keeping fit then I doubt it.

At £70pm, I don't think my health will be of interest to my creditors! The two lots of medication only cost £15pm and the daily muscle relaxants have always come out of my housekeeping (the savings are partially offsetting the other £70 but they prob won't see that).

If you can fund this out of your sports, hobbies and entertainment budget then why not?

I agree why not? There is an allowance available so make sure you claim what you are entitled to.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Another thumbs up for me. I am a member of the gym and go almost every day. It is a good use of my social allowance, however I had to cancel my golf club membership and football season ticket.

I once had a client who was a season ticket holder at Charlton Athletic. I thought he was mad so I put the monthly subscription under medical and it was approved.

Enjoy the gym ....you need to continue in some activities whilst in an IVA and if it can't be included in your expenditure then I am sure for £12 a month you can find a few savings here and there to make it happen for you !
