Will the strike action tommorrow affect anyone?

It will affect my daughters, as due to schools not being open, they have to pay increased childcare.

If it helps anyone, employers are being urged to be considerate to parents who need to take time off tomorrow. Options available are: holidays, work the time back or dependant leave (unpaid). Employees should not be disciplined if they have to take time off due to strike action.

It could affect me with customs being on strike so there could be delays to customer shipments, but that's about it.

Luckily the girls I work with have made alternative arrangements for their children as I have to say I wouldn't be too happy if I was the only one in!

I work in education as you know and we had an 'all' staff email and we do not usually sign in just turn up for work but tomorrow we have to sign in and if we don't it will be assumed you're striking and won't get paid.

I'm off tomorrow and worried they'll think I was on strike, tomorrow is covered for teaching.. I'm actually taking my daughter to Loughborough University open day, nothing more. Julie I might need your help if they don't believe me as I'm not losing money x

Lesley, why don't you send your boss an email (if possible) just to confirm you are not striking tomorrow, but had already arranged the time off.

I'll help you if need be, just text me etc.

I have my own views in the strike, but won't go into them. However, I did listen to a radio phone in and a dad said If I don't send my child to school, I can get fined. So can I fine the school for not allowing my child to be educated tomorrow"??????

Good point the Dad made!

My boss comes off a cruise tomorrow she'll be fine. It's the main campus that'll be the jobsworths!

Well, I am off sick at the mo ( since Tuesday ). Uncertified, so will probably be deemed to be on strike. Might get away with it though, as I have special dispensation from HR for more sick leave before triggering the their alarm bells, due to my "condition".

Just self cert as from Tuesday Foggy. As HR are aware of your "condition", it shouldn't cause a problem.

Thanks Julie (I used "" because the diagnosis of M.E is generally because they can't find anything else ... although, after three years they have now thrown fibromyalgia into the mix. No idea how they can tell which is which !!!! )

I have dithered long and hard about this but will be striking tomorrow. They have squeezed and squeezed and I am fed up - 3 years with no increase, changes to compensation, changes to pension.

May be a struggle to get through August with a days less pay but I love beans on toast!

We're not on strike at the moment and as far as I know there are no plans to ballot us.

Foggy - fibro is the aches and pains that appear randomly and it drains the body which in turn starts the ME. I am struggling this week. I work until 1, get home and sleep til about 6pm then get through the evening in a fog.[|)]

I've been lucky as my boss has said since its not my fault the school is closed he will let me have the day off with no loss of pay or holiday time!

Very grateful for his generosity [:I]
