It certainly was! I can remember Muffin the Mule as well - I had a puppet of him.

How about Tinger and Tucker? I think that's how you spelled the names anyway!

Ray - I am totally with you there! I remember Four Feather Falls, Torchy and I loved Fireball XL-5, and Stingray! I am sad enough to remember that on a Monday it was Watch with Mother, Tuesday was Andy Pandy, Wednesday was Bill and Ben, Thursday was Rag, Tag and Bobtail and Friday was The Woodentops!
I was trying to describe Torchy the other day to someone of a similar age to me but sadly they didn't know what I was talking about! (Or maybe they didn't want to admit to being THAT old!)

We had our first TV set in the late 50's. I was quite 'old' at 8 but my favourite then was the Woodentops. In later years when my kids were very small my absolute favourite was Bagpuss and the little mice - still watch it now when the old repeats come up!

This is why I don't know any of these apart from googling them as we didn't have a TV set until the 70's and only then a B&W set as other people were replacing for colour.

Children's TV today is awful! I was round my friends and her children were watching TV and I was climbing the walls by the time I left!

My favourites were The Wombles, Bagpuss and Trumpton.

You're just a couple of years older than me then by the sounds of it Dizzy.

We had our first set at the end of the 50's. You used to rent them then rather than buy them. We used to have ours from Radio Rentals.

I'll admit to still loving The Clangers now - me and my dad used to watch them on a Sunday.

They were the only ones other than Granada that we could use.

At least a couple of years Jan - got a Bus Pass as well! I was in denial about my age and avoided getting one at first. However it is a big saver with the cost of bus fares as they are these days so can't be ignored.

Our TV was from Radio Rentals too - our set was all of about 14 inches - if that - and I can remember after school having peanut butter on toast for tea while we watched the old style Popeye cartoons. Before we had our TV we used to go to my friend's house on a Saturday to watch 'Robin Hood' and I can remember her mum used to drape a cloth over the set while it was warming up to shield us from the harmful rays!

We used Radio Rentals right up until the early 1990's, then we got posh and bought one (it's probably included in my IVA!)

I loved Popeye as well!

I know my mum always used to turn the TV off and unplug it if there was a thunderstorm about!

Mrs Wizz still does that ... first sign of a thunder/electrical storm and the main fuse gets pulled ... dates back to a fire she got caught up in when she was nobbut a bairn. I've told her if there was a fire I'd come and rescue her as soon as I've got me PC to safety.

My mum's mum used to open a window, front and back, (something to do with releasing pressure if the house was hit I think) then we'd all sit under the stairs during a thunderstorm !

Ray!

I love thunderstorms - I'll stand outside and watch it as long as it's not raining!

My dream is to do a storm chasing holiday when my IVA is finished.

My aerial got hit by lightening once and blew my TV up! Only time I've ever claimed on house insurance. x
