For your credit file it would be best to go on a DMP, this you can do yourself or through a free debt management company. An IVA is more damaging to your credit file, but does legalise it all and prevent creditors from contacting you. An IVA does incur costs though unlike a DMP, but these are included in your monthly payment and you would only pay more if your income allowed you to pay more to your creditors.

Hope I have not garbled too much,

Selina

It is impossible to advise which way forward would be better for you on a debt forum. I think that you would now be better off getting advice on all options available to you directly from an IP.

Selina ... just wanted to welcome you to the Forum.

I was a single parent when I was accepted for my IVA ... indeed it was through being a single parent that I got into difficulties with debt [:(]

To every problem there is a solution ... and it is good to look at all the options open to you. I would really encourage you to pick up that phone and speak to an expert ... you could do an awful lot worse than giving Melanie's team a call tomorrow [:)]

Keep in touch with the Forum ... we are all here to help and support you through.

Hi Selina, Take comfort from the fact that you are addressing your problems now - no small feat! Don't forget IP's are only human beings too :-) Whoever you have sent your details to should put your mind at ease as soon as they can. If they don't I am sure the forum will be have something to say!

Good luck

Hi Selina

Do not under any circumstances be scared of the Insolvency firm you have instructed. They are there to help and advise you how best to achieve a solution to your debt problem and get your life back on track. They are not there to judge or patronise you.

If at any time you don't feel that the IP firm is acting in your best interests, then you can always vote with your feet and go elsewhere.

That is slightly higher than the national average return, so you should be fine. Good luck.
