Just had one of those phone calls and pressed 5. Company called Leo International (or that's what it sounded like !!!). When I told them I was fed up being harassed, and wanted my number taken off their database, they hung up !

Signed.

I know they will call again, so I am thinking that maybe next time I waste an awful lot of their time. I don't know where they are based, but I wonder if they ask for post codes.

If so, I think I shall look up 11 Downing Street and Windsor Castle. Wonder what their credit ratings are like ??

That sounds like a good idea.

Hi
It's interesting that we put out a press release regarding the abuse of the insolvency register by the likes of The IVA Council, see

Why not remind people of this petition there have been loads of new people joining this site since it was posted. You never know it could swell the numbers - its a worthy cause !

What a great letter Andy. As we are all on the same side. I've e-mailed Graham Rumney at R3 with the link to see what weight R3 can add to it. Surely if both a forum effectively representing the debtors and a professional body representing the IPs are in unison, the message must be heard.

From a legal banter, I think the question is who owns the information on the IVA details in the Insolvency Register, and if the information is 'free for professonal or business use' for the public or organisations.

I don't think the IVA council is to be blamed in so far the law doesn't say they cannot use the infomation to solicitate clients.

I believe the Insolvency service needs to be given a rebuff as it is their policy of data management that needs to be reviewed.

If it is of public record to know who is on an IVA? and that infomation is used for purposes unintended then something needs to be done! These quango government departments needs to get their act together. Why the public needs to know who is on a IVA I never know?

It's not the access to the information, although this is an issue, it's the fact that the IVA Council are encouraging people not to make any payments to their IP. I know that I was just glad to get rid of the hassle from creditors when I agreed to my IVA, not knowing how much of an impact it could really have later on. Anyone that has not been to this site could well be encouraged to go down this route and therefore default on their IVA. They also want to charge £1000 for bankruptcy and if people do this themselves, it's less than half that cost.

Basically, they are a bunch of cowboys.
