got an email to say that there was suspicious activity on my account. On trying to go to paypal site(typing directly into browser,not following any email links),i get a message saying paypal have randomly selected me for security maintenance. I have also got about 4000 emails sitting in my inbox???

the maintenance thing looks real but WTF with all the emails.

someone tried to take £667 and £55 out my account.

Robbing gits!!!

And a fake name and address had been added to my account.

Paypal had already spotted it and reversed the payments. The fake name and address being added is scarey stuff. Its a private jet company in london. And one of the purchases was for a parrot cage!!!

How the hell do people get into these accouns??

£55 out of co op account this morning!!

Can I get to talk to someone at co op bank about this suspicious transaction,can I heckers like!! An automated number even for reporting cards lost or stolen. And all charging a pretty penny to listen to useless options!!

I am fuming. I am also p***** off!!

That's awful Paul. Like you I do wonder how the hell people manage to hack into your account details. So unfair and annoying. Thank goodness Paypal have brought to light quickly though.

Co op says a £667 payment is sitting pending on my account but cant tell me if it will come out or not!!
Paypal has told me they have electronically told co op the payment is fraudulent but co op may still pay it out to then take it back in up to 10 days later!!!

Paypal were good on the phone this morning.

Hi you probably know now but I was trying to get past the automated service with Co-op and I eventually used the business sevice who then transfered me he told me to just press # to speak to a human after the number options are offered. I do hope you get things sorted banking systems are very odd. Paypal always been really helpful when i've had to deal with them in past

Have Co-op changed their phone system? I never used to have a problem speaking to anyone as there was an option to speak to a human.

Got told this morning when I eventually got through that hitting hash a lot is the best way to get through to a human being. I said thats handy to know since I'd been on the automated line 5 times frantically trying to tell someone was money was being taken fraudulently! !

Flipping nightmare and my passwords are all diffrrent and strong. If you have one password for all your online things do me a favour and go change them!! If they can hit me they can hit you.

The password advice is good Paul and I am guilty for having a generic password. I really ought to take your advice. x

Paypal seem to think that a less secure site (like a forum), will possibly be easier to get your password from and if any of your other passwords are similar a number sequencer may just give them a password you think is secure. Childrens names etc should be avoided!

Hopefully 667 will not be leaving my account tomorrow even though paypal will pay it back in, it could take up to ten days!!

Paul, if it is a direct debit on your bank account for paypal you are guaranteed a full and IMMEDIATE refund from your bank. Basically they have to credit the money back from their own suspense account while they wait for paypal to pay it back. If it was taken via your debit card then it's a little more tricky.

Just going to paypal now to change my password.
