the title says it all i had to borrow my parents old one which is incredibly slow and seems on the brink too.

are you allowed to purchase a replacement one during an iva or is it considered a luxury.

i wouldn't clasify it as essential but they are really handy for work /school home work and best of all saving money .

How exactly has your computer died it cold be rescueable quite cheaply

This is one of my fears! Can't do without my laptop. I would speak to your IP. If it's not possible to take a break, is there anyone that can buy a cheap one for you and then you pay back by saving from another allowance?

I couldn't be without mine because of work etc., I do have a work computer (laptop) which I don't like so choose to use my own.

taliesin - what a very kind offer for fuzzy. I love the fact that everyone is so helpful on here and I'll remember that if mine goes pop at any time!! Don't think Dell will be honouring the extended warranty with mine as I have included them in the IVA!

many thanks for he sound advice and in particular the very kind offer from taliesin .

the symptoms that my pc suffered before its

death included a blue screen and it would just reboot itself over and over again .

i was advised to press f8 and try to start in safe mode and if not that debug mode .

debug mode worked for a few months but last week when i tried to switch the thing on the screen remains black but lit and nothing else happens .

im thinking about getting the local pc mechanic to see what he says about it .

i have also emailed my case offer explaining my situation.

OH knows a bit about computers so I asked his advice. Has it been knocked or dropped? If so he said it could be the hard drive. If it's a laptop something could have come loose inside, which could be quite easy to fix.

He also asked if you've got anti virus software as if not the hard drive could have been corrupted by a virus.

Okie dokey, can you hear the hard drive spinning when you try and power the bad boy up? If it's a laptop, does the underneath get warm when the screen is black but lit. Your welcome to drop me an E-mail outside of forum if a MODERATOR can kindly provide my email addy to fuzzy_dunlop, as i don't think I can post it here. I'll send you my mobile number/house number then and can talk you through fault finding. Don't go taking it to your local P.C mechanic unless you know them well. It's a cut-throat buisness and some (not all) can be a bit naughty and charge you the earth when we're not in the position to pay it on this forum.
