I took a half day holiday to go to my nearest branch and when I got there they told me to fill in the paperwork and they would send it off - I could have done that myself! The staff were very nice though and got my mum a cup of tea while I filled everything in!

I am just looking at the co-op bank website right now - the cashminder doesn't have online banking does it? So I need to set up direct debits etc. over the phone?

Co op does have online banking(use it 3 times a day) but not sure about setting up DD's online, the phone banking is very easy to use as well though for dd and so setting up.
Discharged today the 8th feb 2012. View is much brighter now.
Continuing to rebuild our credit worthiness.

You do get online and telephone banking with the Cashminder account.

It is really good - we just have a better offer at the moment and there is no saying that when (hopefully) we are in IVA the abbey won't haul us over the coals. The Co op is in place ready and waiting......

Hi Andy

I didnt tell either LloydsTSB or the Halifax that I was going into an IVA, they werent creditors, once I entered into an IVA, halifax sent me a new debit card which expires in 4 months, and said becuase of a sudden change in my credit status, they may not be able to offer the account, and lloydstsb took my debit card, and made me feel like a piece of dirt.
So in that respect I think it is right to inform the banks that you are considering an IVA/DMP so that you can get the correct account, and so that they are aware of any changes in your credit history, or any pending/future changes in your credit worthyness.

Just my opinion.

I st up a Co OP casminder account, told them I was hoping for an IVA. They were really helpful, helped me set up all my direct debits, internet banking (which is so easy to use) got an Electron Visa cashcard, have not found a shop yet that does not accept them yet. Can take cash out at any link/post office/lloyds/hsbc machines (no charges).
They even set me up a savings account to put by any money I save from within my budget towards unexpected emergencies. And I even got a cup of tea.

We had an account with Barclays prior to our IVA's, but as they were one of my creditors we changed. I have still kept the account open though (it has all of 45p in it!), and they have not yet asked for the debit card back, or closed the account, so as long as I can, I will keep it open. Once my IVA is finished, I will go back to using that one. I do miss a debit card!

I didn't tell Lloyds that I was going into an IVA and they never mentioned it - they were even happy for me to keep my account open when I went BR.

I would recommend the Co-Operative bank - they are a lot more ethical than others and frankly I would not touch LLoyds with a bargepole now, even for this, they have treated us VERY badly.

Hi celticchicdkadee and welcome to the forum.

What a brilliant name!!!!!!!

I'm not too impressed with Lloyds either - they were one of my creditors, one of the smaller ones and they voted no! Didn't make any difference though!

Went out today and opened a co-op account (very nice in there) waited for about 30mins in abbey for them to tell me they don't open accounts on a saturday (!!), went to Lloyds who directed me to another Lloyds and they told me to open a 'classic' account even though I said I wanted a basic one, because he said a basic one would ruin my credit rating further!!! I may cancel that one...

Coop were the best but I have to wait 7-10 days for the information to come through whereas Lloyds gave me the info right away. I need to tell my employer my new account details soon though......

Have you stopped paying creditors yet?

Have you started IVA procedure?
