thank you all for your answers to my posts so far. I am new here after finally admitting a debt problem just 4 days ago and making an enquiry about an IVA. When I made the call to IP I felt really positive, like I was finally getting a load off my chest. Friday was an ok day, as was yesterday as been really busy with work and home.
Today, i have sat down and completed budget sheet and lists of creditors - just finished at 11.30 and feel really low to the point of tears. Lots of worrying thoughts about house, kids - husband and if all this will work or not.
We have 68k debts - take home pay is 3450 per month. after working out budget for priorities, we will be able to offer creditors just over 1k per month between 6 of them. is this at all viable - are they going to accept us for iva? is this similar to anybody elses situation?
I am so scared about the future and what will happen. probably does not help that i gave up smoking recently due to ill health and awaiting an op - everything just seems to be getting on top of me right now. Husband has just stormed off to bed as he found a packet of ciggies in my bag!! they really were for a desperate moment i brought them in a moment of lack of will power - now i want to smoke the blooming lot!!

Hey apple, I'm so sorry you're feeling down. If your figures are correct, that is a very high dividend that the creditors will be getting. Please wait for an expert to comment on that for you. Hope you feel a little better soon, thinking of you. Viki X

Hey

I have no idea about the figures, but just wanted to say.... Hang on in there, this is the hardest part. You KNOW you need to face this thing, and this is the time.....

So start as you mean to go on, be positive. I know you will have bad days, tears are OK, we laugh when we are happy dont we??? So accept that youre not going to feel on top of the world, neither is hubby. BUT you have to stay in this together. He has to understand (I take it he is a non smoker) that those fags in your bag are a comfort blanket, you need that right now. Storming off to bed is a no no, you need each other more than ever now. He loves you, surely he can bear to see a box of rags in your bag, rather than you climbing the walls. You probably wouldnt even smoke them, you just need them close. Its really important to communicate together, that way you will stay strong, you can have your nervous breakdowns on seperate days.

Dont worry too much, you have put the figures down and have been honest. (make sure you dont make the figures higher than they should be, its easy to do when you want something to work). If youre realistic it will work. If not then there will be another way. There is an answer to every problem, it might not be the answer you want to hear but it will be honest. Being skint, honestly isnt such a bad place to be...

You cant buy the love that you share together, you cant buy the most important things in life, you already have that, if you can stand together, you will get through it all.

Good luck.

Love
LILY

If you are able to pay in excess of £1,000 per month, and your debts are £68k then an IVA may not be the best solution for you or your creditors. Has your IP also discussed the benefits of a DMP with you as well?

No - a DMP was what I had hoped for, but they said IVA was best bet. I will be in touch melanie - and will hold fire signing anything until then! Thank you

Good morning Apple. Hang on in there, it can be a rough road to travel but you will hit the smooth soon.Try and stay off the fags. I put £3 per day in the savings pot next to my bed and a week on i have £21 in there ! In 4 weeks there will be £84. 52 weeks and there will be £1000. Your health will improve and you will heal much more effectively post operatively. Hope you feel better soon. You've done the hardest part regarding your debts, life goes forward now and never backwards.#13;#10;Take Care.

I agree with Melanie, however, you might want your insolvency practitioner to check your income and expenditure to make sure that you have included all expenditure items and that your expenditure items are at the right level. If you have missed some of your expenditure or not put them at the right level your disposable income may decrease to a level that makes an IVA an option for you.

This shows how important it is to ensure that you consider all options - and make sure you choose the right one not just for today but for the future as well.

Hi Apple2

Hope you are feeling a bit more positive today. You are doing all the rights things to get your debt sorted out, we have all been there. Well done with the fags as well, wish I could cut them out completely - I have cut mine down from 20 a day (pre-IVA) to 6 a day now so I am quite pleased but I would like to chuck the habit completely but sometimes I just get too stressed and need one (ridiculous to use them as a crutch I know but, hey ho, smokers know what I mean).

Good luck with your journey and keep us posted.

Liz

We have similar debt and a similar income - our IVA payment is £1270 - over the five years with no equity clause. Although DMP was probably a better solution, it did not offer the comfort of no more interest being added and always the chance that things good go wrong very quickly - I am more than happy paying in this amount and knowing no more interest is being added and that my creditors are / will be getting 93% if not more of their money back!

10 down 50 to go and can't wait!
