Hi Folks,

Posted before, but this time, despite numerous failed efforts to think I was there came to nothing...THIS TIME I HAVE FINISHED!

Been in the IVA since May 2005, with Freeman Jones, but perhaps in hindsight I was in such a hurry to keep my creditors quiet I ran into an IVA too fast, something I slightly regret now. (With credit file issues.)

Paid my final payment on 25th May this year, so I'm waiting for my Completion Certificate (FJ said 4 weeks - so roughly 26th june) to frame and hang on the wall hopefully!

Only Question: Is that certificate of completion going through fast because it's run for so long?

It's been 72 months of payments, and a lot of hassle, but is it worth it? Without question! It's awful looking at the road ahead and thinking there's no end, it's seemed like that for me. But i'm nearly, nearly got that bit of paper, i'm very happy for that :P

This site has been invaluable, to my own questions and threads from others, about how to go about an IVA, and superb advice across the board.

Apart from my Question above, Wish everyone else good luck - from those starting their IVA's, those part way hoping/waiting to get there, and celebrate with those who are debt free and looking forward to a better future :).

Rich

Hi Rich well done on completing your IVA and hope your certificate arrives with you very soon. Certificates seem to vary company to company in the speediness of their arrival.

Glad the site has been invaluable to you and thanks for posting a lovely post it will help others I'm sure along their journey. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Well done devellish...I too finished a couple of weeks ago, and after 5 years of walking to the bank every month with a handful of cash and an IVA paying in slip it was such a relief! (I used to call it my walk of shame! lol)

I was listening to the radio yesterday and they had "thought of the day" on ........they had some rabbi on there and his quote for the day was " make best friends with your failures...they may be the best friends you ever have!!" and I thought of my IVA... the only way I got through the 5 years was to befriend my IVA, work with it, and not fight it!!... and I think many people on here take the same view!
My debts were my failure, not my IVA!
Im hoping after befriending my failures they will serve as a good reminder in the years ahead!
You gotta go through the lows to really appreciate the highs!! :o)

Follow up to this, Certificate of completion came through the post today, yeehaw!

Finishing was great, but this is better :P despite £780 being unclaimed (own dad is a creditor, so could have been him) it's all done and dusted.

Just sorting out Natwest with an odd default that is over 6 years of the start date but being removed soon is the best news ever.

Regards the insolvency register - My "status" there is still shown as current - will it ALWAYS remain as "current" until all the monies have been paid out, even though i have the certificate?

I don't understand why it has to take 4 weeks to issue a simple closure report - but keep an eye on it and make sure that they stick to their word.

Well done Devilish, you must be over the moon!!

I'm not sure of the timescale re: register. In an IVA it stays on for 3months, but I'm sure your details come off sooner with an IVA.

Yeah i don't understand it really.

I keep thinking because there's funds still to be claimed (allbit a small fraction) the insolvency service keep it listing my case as "ongoing" rather than being finished.

After 28 days, so my closure report states, it gets distributed to all the other creditors anyway it seems. So maybe the IS will change it then.

It all depends upon how the IVA is finalised orange and whether or not all creditors have made a claim.

Something to be sorted with your IP.

IPs should be ready to close their cases as soon as the final payment is made, not leaving clients waiting for two months or more.
