Halifax and the Co-op

I'm also trying to set up/sort out alternative bank account situation at the moment. I am please with the co-op in some ways, but in others they are like the gestapo!

1. Hubby and I have just opended an account with the co-op, and they wont give me a debit card, which is an absolute joke when they have agreed one or my husband who actually owes the most to creditors. I think this may be because my income is partly student and partly benefits.

2.I am tempted to stay with Halifax where I have an account with an overdraft, but pay that off and keep with this account as I have a debit card for it.

3. Problem with point 2 is that one of my husbands creditors is Mint, aka RBS, who also own Halifax. Would this likely cause me a problem as i wouldnt be a debtor to them?

Halifax is associated with the Bank of Scotland, not the Royal Bank.

Which account did you apply for with the Co-op? I have the very basic Cashminder Account which comes with a Visa Electron debit card.

Regarding your Halifax account, I wouldn't suggest paying off the overdraft as that is preferring one creditor over another.

we are with the co-op and both have debit cards, even though I only worked 4 hrs per week and now I'm not working. Have they gave you an explanation as to why you have not been issued a card? How do you get your money out?
As skippy says, if you pay off the overdraft with Halifax it's showing them preference so not a good idea.
Yorkshire bank have a good basic account from what's said on the forum so might be worth looking into that.

hi - Natwest's step account is really good. they accept undischarged bankrupts & ccj's and issue you a solo meastro card. they'll also do all the switching for you and you'll get a new account number within about a week
