I don't get a lot to be honest. I think it's about time that all this stuff was knocked on the head though.

Got home today and there's another Halifax statement demanding payment of the full amount by 3/5/11 - no mention that it is for info only. Will forward it on with the rest. Now I know why there charges are so high - need to pay the postage for all these unnecessary letters!!.

While I'm ranting - does anybody else have their mortgage with the Halifax and have problems at the end of the month? I do not get paid until the last working day of each month (this can change each month) but the Halifax insist on my payment date being the 28th. Some months it is not possible to pay this until the 29th/30th or 31st and according to them I am in arrears (even though I've paid it in the month it is due). Then a couple of days later I receive a letter stating I am in arrears with around another 10 sheets of paper and a printed booklet. I've raised this higher up the Halifax management but all you get is 28th is the last day they will accept payment and it is policy to send the letters - what a diabolical waste of money - keeps my shredder busy each month!!

I had this problem recently trying to change my student loans when my payday changed. I was told Direct Debits can only be set between 10 - 28 of the month. Can you move the mortgage payment back a couple of weeks so it falls after the 10th?

I used to get paid on the last day of the month as well (we've recently changed to the middle of the month) and all of my DD's were set up to come out on the first or the next few days afterwards.

I also had to change my DD date when I moved to where I work now as the pay day differed and my mortgage company were great. They changed the date to the first and, ok, it meant we were a payment out but they just said to try and pay it over the next twelve months or it would get added on to the end of the term. As I didn't have a spare £1k to give them we just left it.

See if they will let you change it to the first of the month.

As the Halifax know about the IVA, they say I would have to pay 2 payments in a month so I would basically then be in credit, nice for them but is that ever going to happen - think not at present!! Really really unhelpful on the main telephone contact number but then I'm sure it goes through to India. Until recently they were phoning me on the 29th to say I was in arrears and needed to make a payment over the phone - this stopped when I threatened to submit an harrassment claim to their company.

Have been in to the branch and a really nice advisor was fully prepared to help and said the system could easily be over-ridden to accept the payment on the last day of the month. She put this in place for me and on the evening I got a phone call saying her decision was not authorised and the date was amended to 28th.

If I was in a position to change I would but I now just feel that I'll let them get on with it. I know I pay it within the month each time, if they want to spend their month on printing, postage and fancy booklets that go straight in the shredder/recycle then let them get on with it!!! Wonder what their shareholders would think about it if they found out how many people nationwide are subjected to this every month - oh well I guess is this my "little bit extra" from them ha ha

You could always pop the shiney booklet into an addressed but unstamped envelope and kindly return it for them to recycle.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.

I think I'd be sending a strongly worded letter to head office asking what they are playing at, and why can't you amend the date?

Ha ha Foggy like your style - you really shouldn't go putting ideas in my head I might just have to try it for the fun of it!!

Kallis - you're absolutely right but to be honest I've got to the stage when I can't be bothered as the Halifax obviously employ too many jobsworths. If they try and do anything if I pay on 29th or 30th of the month instead of 28th, they are gonna look right donuts not me!!! I do have a friend who has shares and she was mad as hell when I showed her what they sent each month to me never mind everyone else, so we were talking about sending the paperwork to the company who deals with the shares with a covering letter asking them to let all the Halifax shareholders know what the Halifax is doing!! They might not do it but it would be fun trying!!
