After reading a post on the forum very recently from someone who had completed an IVA, had their credit files clear up and been removed from the IR and proceeded to get a mortgage with First Direct Bank all within months, I thought I might try and open a current account with them.
I checked their conditions on their site and it states that `you must not have been declared bankrupt or have REGISTERED for an IVA within the last six years, or be in the process of doing so`
Having completed mine in July after commencing in July 2010,OVER six years have elapsed so I thought I`d be ok to apply. I phoned them to confirm and was told that I couldn`t apply and it would be six years AFTER IVA completion that I could apply[:0]
I explained that would be twelve years after commencing the IVA and was told `yes it can be difficult can`t it`.
I actually think the person I spoke to and the manager they got the info from may be wrong, both assuming that the period IN THE IVA qualifies for the six year condition.

First direct are notorious with IVA's - wouldn't touch them with a ten foot barge pole to be honest.

The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively.

I think it may have been my post. My 6 yr Iva did complete in march this year. Cc arrived May. My First direct mortgage has gone through without any issues even though i was truthful about the Iva. They have also given me a new current account with them. I asked the same question regarding 6 years after Iva or from start and they informed me that as long as i haven't applied to go into an Iva in last 6 yrs then its absolutely fine. Im now a happy first direct customer

Seems you had a good experience Andy. I know how how Goosed feels - wouldnt personally touch First Direct again having had our account closed by them when in our iva.
