Hi
My OH (who is in joint IVA with me) has just been offered a new job which he really wants. Howevever, the contract has just come through and it says that they will carry out full background checks including a financial probity check. He won't be dealing with money (he is an engineer)so I don't understand why they would need to do this? Obviously the IVA will show up. We only have two more payments to go on our 6 year IVA. Any advice?

Be upfront and honest and explain in two months it will be completed and you've done your best to your creditors and by completing your IVA you have demonstrated your committment and are ready for your fresh start with both the new position and your finances.
Probably a bit too flowery but scale it down as such. All the best for the job for OH.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Thanks Lesley. It's all such a worry - just when you think you are moving forward and then something like this kicks you in the teeth!

Yes I can imagine. I sincerely hope it goes well with the job and the checks. My way of thinking is if you get in there first you acknoledge it.
Is a financial probity check a full credit check? I'm not even sure what it is to be honest. x
