Feeling really cheesed off today. I'm just at the half way mark of my IVA and up to now things have been going ok. A few week ago my car broke down on the way home from work. A new clutch cost me £331 and wiped out my savings. I also need 2 new tyres (£70) and new brake pads and discs ( can't face asking how much these will cost me at the moment) and I have nothing left to pay for these. Does anyone think this is a justifiable reason for a payment break? It's not something I really want to do but as I haven't got anyone I could ask to give me the money I can't think of an alternative [:(]

Absolutely - get on the phone to your IP on Monday to explain that you've used your contingency and still have more repair costs to pay for. Judging by the forum, I would think your IP deals with requests like yours every week. I know how scary asking for the full costs is - but it will help your IP understand how long of a payment break you will need. I hope the costs aren't as much as you're imagining!! x

Thanks Broke of London. Hopefully only 1 payment beak will be needed. It's so unfortunate that those 3 things have happened at once or I could have probably managed. Will definitely ring my case manager on Monday.

Well just been brave and rang the garage for a price- £125, not as much as I thought but still beyond what I can afford this month!

I think you are one of my clients? If so do give us a call but the events you have described may well warrant you missing a payment - which would be at your choice because we cannot grant permission for breaks. If your payment record is good then this should cause little disturbance to a well performing IVA which is over half-way completed.

Thanks Melanie will phone tomorrow. Been worried sick about this. Everything has been running smoothly with just the odd hiccup which I've been able to deal with. This is just one of those unfortunate things where a few things have happened at once.

I am in London in meetings tomorrow - but available on e-mail. Alternatively you can speak with Laura. Am sure we can sort something out for you.
