Hi all, I have finally received the Certificate of Completion! Thanks to all on the forum for advice over the last 5 years. Can someone help me now on the next steps. It is nearly 6 years since the IVA started. Here are my questions:

1) Do I need to contact the credit ref agencies with my certificate to ensure all debts are marked settled?
2) How can I get removed from the insolvency register?
3) Are there any other things which I should do?
4) How can I re-build my credit?

Thanks!

You can get an online report for £2.00 but they don't like it and will often bounce your debit card if you have one.

I got 2 out of the three online. Both read slightly different. I suppose though settled or not it's still on there. for another year and then it actually disapears from the record.

So although my IVA says completed I think the bottom line is untill the six years has lapsed not a lot will change. I still get no Junk mail 8 months on! And that's even with a perfect score on my current account for the last 5 years, no one's going to even lend me a pencil
till the IVA's and the odd default has dropped off

Well done IVA_kid.

The IVA should drop off automatically on the 6th anniversary. You now need to get a copy of your record from all three agencies and if there are any defaults registered after the date of IVA acceptance then you should write to the data controllers for those creditors enclosing a copy of your completion letter and tell them to remove the defaults.

You can start rebuilding your credit by making sure bank accounts/mortgage (if applicable), mobile phone contracts are up to date. Apply for a Vanquis credit card and make sure you pay it off each month.

Thanks guys. I will check those dates and contact the controllers - I had a look before and several were registered after the IVA start date.

I need to get a new bank account now (I am currently paying for a managed one which I don't think is appropriate any more). Is there any advantage in waiting til the 6 years are up, or should I apply now? Which account would you recommend? I guess it should not be one of my previous creditors?

Thanks,
IVA_kid

Hi IVA Kid,

Congrats. I received my CC too today. Like you next step is clearing up my credit file. I am with GT (oooh should now be say was with GT!). They have put on my covering letter that they have sent copies to the Court and Registrar for IVAs so that should automatically come off the register very soon. You can always check on the insolvency register on line to make sure it comes off. As others have advised your IVA will not fall off you credit file until after the 6 year point.
IVA finished Oct 2011, CC received 27 April 2012, No longer on Insolvency Register 01 May 2012. Jan 2013 - all Credit Files squeaky clean :)

Hi 12 months to go,

I was with Grant Thornton, last Direct Debit was end of Oct....so 6 months wait. Even though I do consider 6 months too long to wait, this was a bit of a result for me. If you told me this time last week i would have my CC I wouldn't have believed it. Reading other peoples posts who were/are with GT they have waited in excess of 6 months, some over a year, I was full of dread that I was in for a longer wait. My advise would be when you have paid your last payment if you have not heard anything for a few weeks ask them for an update, if you do not get a satisfactory response then see if they have a rep who posts on here and send them an email. It doesn't harm to put a post on here to say what your issues are. I found this forum great for sharing problems, venting frustrations and so very informative on lots of levels. Good luck in your last yearx

Hi, I agree with ladybird - keep in touch with your IVA company after last payment.

My last payment was exactly 1 year ago today. After not hearing anything I contacted GT for an update in August only to be told that there was a small amount outstanding which turned out to be an error.

It was only after I contacted GT that I learned of this problem so my case wasnt passed to closure until August.

If I didnt contact them myself my case may not have been sent to closure by now.

thanks ladybird & stormsylv

Youve both been their & worn the tshirt. you know what the feelings like , all paid up ( fortunately I did check this in the last few eeks before my final payment ) but feel that there could still be an unexpected last minute hitch. DFD have told me all is ok, but it doesnt stop the worry until the certificate arrives.

Declan from DFD replied to an email I sent a few days after my payment at Midnight, which is true dedication. I will contact DFD in the week for an update & if I get a bog standard response, only then will I contact Declan, as I understand he does actually have a day job to do at DFD in addition to trying to follow up all issues posted on here. Similar to my day job, I could get on with it a lot quicker if I didnt keep getting my workflow added to !!

Ive got my fingers crossed, but have prepared myself for 3-6 months, bbut would love to be proved wrong !!

enjoy the weekend as wet & cold as it is
