The definition of irony...

Are there any other benefits to be accessed - if the hours don't qualify as 'working' do any of the unemployment benefits apply?

It is a vicious circle you are working and studying to try and better yourselves yet they do not take this into account.

Its a FUBAR situation at the moment, so may people are worrying because of the loss of wftc and I bet many people who rely on this will end up out of work as they will be worse off to continue working

I would love to know what goes on in the heads of the "powers that be"

I think they brought it in because a lot of people on low incomes have deliberately stuck to working 16hrs a week and no more as WFTC then tops up their wages to the same as if they had a FT min wage job so there was no incentive to work more, I think employers cottoned on to this aswell and would only offer 16hr contracts.

I personally don't think it's too much to ask a couple to work more than 24hrs between them to get this benefit, but I do think the timing is rubbish as jobs aren't that easy to get at the moment.

I agree in principle Lem,the problem with the system is that the many(who dont want to work) mess it up for the few(who want to work more but cannot).
