Entered into an IVA on 4th August 2011. Lost my job last year 3 months before my pension kicked in, consequently frozen for 10 years! Now have another job, too late. On 2nd August I received notification that my PPI with Barclaycard had been approved, £73,000. Have notified IVA practioners, £40,000 that I owe, said that I will owe them approximately £10,000 for two months work! I have to pay tax on the £73,000 and I have to pay MG Financial for getting this through for me (20% of the total amount + 4% VAT) I am still waiting for Barclaycard to come up with this amount. Barclaycard have told MG financial that they paid the amount into an account and it is waiting for someone to push the button. Even I can work out that £73,000 is not going to be enough to pay this off. Wilson Field Insolvency Practioner has told me that they will hold this in abeyance until I pay them £40,000. Due to bad advice given to me when I first took this IVA out from Netchwood, I stayed with First Direct, they froze my bank account two weeks ago, along with all of my money in it. Can not get another account with anybody, have tried Co-op, today tried Barclays, declined. Don't know which way to turn as I cannot see any way through this. My husband died last week and am feeling that maybe his funeral will be the turning point!
Hi, I'm sorry to read your post as it seems you need time to grieve for your husband rather than have this to worry about, unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to advise you as I'm just a person in an IVA but feel confident one of our knowledgeable expers will be along later or indeed Monday.
Hopefully co-op will come up trumps with the bank account as they are usually IVA friendly.
I'm sure there will be a way so do hang in for some expert advice and do come back and talk to us for support.
I realise this is easy for me to say but try not to worry and concentrate on you for a while as you need some time. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Our IVA's over YIPPEE unbelievable!Seems like yesterday it was approved despite everything
hey jennifer. sorry for your sad news and you really dont need this extra burden at this time. it might be worth going on iva.com just to talk to someone as youre having a hard time of it and you need some support. ((hugs ))) for you fd xx
Jennifer, I don't suppose you have an old account somewhere that may still be open even if its from ages ago with someone who you don't owe anything to? I'm also wondering if it may be worth a visit to your GP as your are under immense pressure and stress at such a sad time? I cannot even begin to imagine how all of this must feel. Keep posting there is lots of support on the forum. Hugs

Jennifer - I am so very sorry about the loss of your husband, and clearly this must be the most important thing on your mind right now. If you feel that you are not getting the right support from your own IP, I would me more than happy to try to assist you off-line - but right now I would deal with the day to day issues that you have to prioritise, and get through the next couple of difficult weeks.
The IVA will still be there and it is unlikely to be put into jeopardy due the loss of your husband. My thoughts are very much with you at such a sad time.
I am so sorry to read of your sad news as well and really feel for you.
If you need to, take Mel up on her offer of help - she will assist as much as she can.
In the meantime, take each day as it comes and the forum is here at anytime for advice and support.

Hi Jennifer - I am so sorry for your loss. Maybe an expert can advise but although I know that First Direct normally close accounts as soon as they know someone is in an IVA, I'm not sure whether they can hold onto any money in it?
I would definitely contact Mel to speak off-line as she will no-doubt be able to give you excellent advice to try to help you.

I wouldn't think they could keep any money that's in the account, especially if they're not a creditor.
Whilst they can close the account, anything left in there should be returned to you.
