"What a bunch of losers!" I used to think over the last few years, as I vegged out in front of daytime TV and watched all those commercials about insolvency advice and assistance.
Then one day, not so long ago, I realised that I myself was absolutely disoriented in thick fog on the cliff-tops! So one day in the week I shall be firing a distress flare in the form of initial contact with an IP.
Wish me luck for a five-year climbdown! In more ways than one.

Thank you, Lesly and Kallis, for your encouragement and advice.
The thing about the advice, which I often read in this forum, is that my game plan has always been to complete the CCCS assessment questionnaire; then, having fine-tuned the answers as closely as possible, go to the next step by clicking on the link to the form where you commit to giving name, address and contact number. Do I then get a choice of IPs? Always wondered in a general way, but now it is approaching a practical problem.
I thought you were talking about the England team there Harry!
I wouldn't waste time with filling in the assessment questionnaire if I were you - most IPs work on the basis of CCCS guidelines, and you can save yourself some time by approaching an IP firm direct - over which you have the ultimate choice.
Good advice from Melanie; we went straight to CCCS as we had no idea about this forum, or that we even had a choice of IP! If we had of realised we would of gone straight to the IP.
We filled in their questionaire and got out 'debt remedy' emailed to us. We then decided on an IVA (we had done some prior reseach but nothing as detailed as the advice on here) and were put in touch with an IP, no idea where he was from but we didn't feel very happy or comfortable, he actually said he couldn't help and would put us in touch with another company, again didn't feel right. In the meantime we had found this forum and gathered together some great advice. Once we realised we could choose whatever IP we wanted, we gave Melanie and her team a call and feel so much better that the other company!
Good Luck Harry!
