I doubt the commercial sector will ever deal with benefits and housing issues
and the charity sector is not best placed to supervise IVAs- although they might receommend them.

Thanks for all the replies and advice, the biggest issue I have as I have just started the process and will start with an dmp first then go for an IVA as my wife has started a new job after being made redunant so needs to pass the three month trial period before applying for an IVA, and has she was out of work for three months we have fallen behind on the mortgage so I cant start paying clear debt for another month which means until they have had money off me they cant really do much to help until then and Barclaycard have told me they want a letter from Clear debt within 14 days to say they are acting for me which I dont clear debt can unitl I start paying them

I know I would pay more debt back going with payplan but I have heard bad things about them hence I'm with clear debt, they said they wont deal with cleardebt at all as they are fee based....

I'm so confussed any advice

They can say they are acting for you, but may not wish to without an up front payment - although knowing the guys up there if you were a hardship case I am sure they would take you on. Size5 can confirm or otherwise if he comes onto the forum later on.

Barclaycard are unlikely to do anything within the timescale that they require the letter, but if you feel more comfortable going to an organisation which is funded by creditors then you have to make that choice. You may wait at least 14 days for either Payplan or CCCS to be able to process your case anyway.

Hi
I think that you will, generally, receive a better service from a good commercial debt management company and creditors will always promote "free" DMP providers because they are funding them.
The creditors will actually receive the full debt back if a client uses a commercial DMP company from start to finish , whereas a client using CCCs or Payplan will actually result in the creditor receiving approx 87% back of the debt as the balance is paid to the company for collecting the payment.
JohnnyBriggs is spot on in stating that creditors must work with the company that you decide on.
There is a need for both the "free" providers and good commercial companies in the DMP market.

Do you know, I have never even noticed these companies mentioned on any of my statements or default notices. Just had a look at a Barclaycard one and saw it, although it wouldn't have swayed me as I never noticed it until I read this thread and had a look!

I have tired of Blaclaycard and their silly questions, they talk to people as if they are village idiots and don't know what they are doing....and, this may be a bold statement, but since my hubby advised them of his position and said they would put his account on a 14 day hold, they haven't contacted him since, but they still continue to ring me, even though my account is alledgedly on a 14 day hold....I have drawn my own conclusions.....woman....easier to get to emotionally!
