Hi All,

I am seriously considering entering into an IVA. I am also though wanting to further my education and complete a BSc in Estate Management. Hopefully when completed I would like to become a member of RICS.

My question is will an IVA restrict my further education?

If you wish to study during an IVA you would need to keep your IP up to date. You would need permission to obtain student loans for example but if the IVA is not jeopardised and there is a possibility of improved earnings as a result of your extra qualifications there should be no real problem.

I cant see any way in which an IVA would restrict further education.
Discharged today the 8th feb 2012. View is much brighter now.
Continuing to rebuild our credit worthiness.

My concern is it would restrict membership of professional bodies such as the RICS?

Thanks

I cant imagine that there would be any conflcit between being insolvent and a member of the RICS.

Many professional bodies will want to be informed about IVAs and if you do not this can be deemed as gross misconduct. If the IVA is as a result of unprofessional conduct and client's monies have been lost, it is highly likely that you will be expelled but otherwise it is not normally an issue.

Contact the RICS on a no names basis and ask what their policy is regarding insolvency. It would probably put your mind at ease.

I have recently advised a member of the RICS, who looked into whether bankruptcy or an IVA would affect his professional membership, and the answer was it would not.
