Firstly, this is not a question, more a light-hearted comment.
Having last week settled my IVA in full with interest, this week Lloyd's TSB (my most major creditor...35%)announced that they are able to repay the billions owed to the tax payer. (Reminded me a bit of my friend remarking that when I cut up my credit cards we would be plunged into an economic meltdown..... and we were[:p])
I like to think I did my bit......[:D]
.....unfortunately though, it turns out that Lloyd's are closing down all their C&G branches with the loss of 1500 jobs. Lucky then, that they gave us our money back in time to help all those unemployed C&G staff [:(]
Good luck to anyone who has a creditor's meeting coming up. If you're reading this site, you're in safe hands!!
Just awful for C&G workers. I really loathe my job but am just grateful to have one, even though budget cuts late last year meant I was £400 per month worse off. Made paying the IVA very tough. I shivered through through the winter, bought clothes on Ebay, became the bogoff expert, gave up all alcohol, cut my smoking habit by a quarter, moved out of my flat and went into a flat share.
If my IVA had failed and I'd had to go BR, I wouldn't have had a job either.
Now, with a much clearer head I am seriously thinking of volunteering at the CAB or joining the Samaritans just to feel as if I can do something positive in an increasingly desperate situation.
What a good idea nic. It would be good for a CAB office to have someone with experience of debt working for them.
On top of the C&G jobs (which I think is terrible), don't forget the 800+ jobs going at LDV and also the rumour that 800 jobs will be going at the Forensic Science Service over the next couple of years.
I think this site's members will be increasing significantly in the not too distant future.

I agree it's very unsettling. I to work for an old hbos division that is now lloyds. We all had to reapply for our jobs recently and 350 people lost their jobs. I agree with melanie it must surely end sometime!
Trouble is though Paul, it might take a long time before all these redundancies stop. I remember the recession in the 90's and it was nowhere near as bad as it is now.
