am a old member of this forum (old user name ratface) who after 6 1/2 years doing an iva with FJones and completed my iva in 2012.i need some advice,on saturday i recived an letter from a company called cabot financil requesting a outstanding amount of (wait for it ) £4974.90 from a old lender who i brought an car from in 2004/5. when i started my iva this debt on the car was included within my iva creditors list 110 % sure of it was .now after 6 1/2 years of doing the iva and completed in 2012 and 3 years on is this some kind of scam or a joke 9 1/2 years later ? have i got something to be worried over ?since 2012 i was stress free my heath was on the up and now am getting stressed out again
From what I understand they have a habit of buying up old debts just in case it leads to a result.
Send them proof of the iva and that should clear it up.
IVA started March 2011, Completed March 2016 and certificate issued 11 days after final payment. It was not always easy but then some of the best decisions aren't.
Do you still have your paperwork from the original start date of the the IVA? It will tell you on there whether this debt was included and also your final report should state which creditors have been paid.
Speak to FJ on Monday and see if they can clarify the position for you.

If you're 100% sure it was included you've nothing to worry about. If you still have the paperwork, produce copies of this for their perusal and I'm sure they'll stop contacting you.
You can always ask FJ to take this on for you if you haven't as I'm sure their after care will stretch to this.
This, though is a prime example of why we need to keep this paperwork. I've got mine but sometimes wonder how long I need to keep it.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
I've still got all of mine and doubt I will ever get rid of it!!

Whilst I think it's an excellent idea to keep it for x amount of years, I would like to dispose of mine as my IVA is so private and personal (from my family). I don't want to die and them find it. I would rather it gone from my life at some point.
To keep it is obviously a good idea as per this posting proves.

I will probably keep the completion letters (especially hubbys) in case something comes up later.

thx guy's i definitely got the completion certificate letter and also the final report paper but it don't say on it which creditors been paid only what been paid in and what FJ fee's ben paid, am sure i should have an full report in which states what creditor's been paid and how much. but on this paper only what been paid in over the iva and fee's.am like most people who keep any paper work for year's but since i finished the iva we had a good clear out and shredded a lot but i also got some paper work tucked away in the loft so it loks like i might have to go up their and do some digging.
also i like to say that i did get in touch with FJ and email an copy of this letter to them to sort out and i hope they will come up with something.
If it wasnt included in the IVA Its also to be noted if this company has not contacted you in over 6 years and you have not made a payment or made contact with the company in this time (ie to acknowledge the debt)then legally this debt could be statue barred (IE debt cancelled).Read this for further info - http://moneyaware.co.uk/2013/10/statute-barred-debt/
