Hello
Having been a fan of this site during my IVA I have tried to read and offer advice or support where I can since. I am writing as really worried I finished my IVA around 18 months ago and have a certificate from Grant Thornton to say my was complete and I am no longer under the supervision of Grant Thornton the IVA has come off my credit reports and was starting life again however today I have come home to a letter from Grant Thornton asking me to sign up to PPI compensation checks. I am not willing to do as I have completed my IVA by signing this I am asking to be under their supervision again and I am not willing to do that any advice would be great. Thanks All as always.
The IP has sought leave to appeal, so this could rumble on. If you sign these documents and the final appeal goes in your favour (i.e the IP loses)the ruling will not allow you to keep PPI.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014
Thanks Foggy as far as I am concerned I have completed my IVA I could not care less about PPI to be honest I am just pleased to have completed my IVA and have my certificate. I fail to see how Grant Thornton can write to me and ask me to do thing in line with my IVA when it is completed I feel I am not actually free from IVA at all. If I don't want to sign the forms and claim the PPI I feel this is my right as I am no longer under their supervision can I do this???
I have not seen their letter, but gather it is a bit harsh. I cannot see what pressure ( if any) they could bring to bear now. The certificate released you and the supervisor and I can't see them being able to renege on that.

Thanks Foggy that is my point. I feel this is almost illegal you have signed up to a legal IVA contract with an insolvency company and so have my creditors. I have paid them back what I could they have agreed to take what I have paid back and have been released by the IP company end of contract from what I can see. As I said I don't want the PPI if there is any they can not tell me what to do anymore I am no longer under their supervision I am really angry that they even feel they can write to me again this feels like a life sentence.
Simple really, tell them you were not miss sold PPI you asked for it on your loans etc, I believe that the wording to claim is....HAVE YOU BEEN MISS SOLD PPI.
IVA started March 2011, Completed March 2016 and certificate issued 11 days after final payment. It was not always easy but then some of the best decisions aren't.
You have completion certificate, I would file that letter from them under B one N (B1N) [8D].
Alternatively you could send them a letter back advising you wont be signing the letter, the IVA is complete and advise them they are in breach of case law quoting the above case.
One of those options I more time consuming than the other [8D]
I just find it amazingly cheeky that they are implying they are entitled to your compensation if you were ever entitled to some - they're no different to conmen imho, I would love to see them on Britains rogue traders - perhaps we should write to watchdog about them ....
My Blog details, the route I took before IVA, how I choose my firm, equity release advice (year 4-5), challenging the CRA's keeping IVA on credit file once gone from insolvency register
