The last two loans I got included in my IVA I gambled away. Without paying a penny off them. Now I know this was bad and it is all over my bank statements as I did it online. I am seeking professional help at the moment and haven't gambled for 2 months. Will this go against me at the creditors meeting? I got the loans through my bank account and was genuinely surprised I was accepted so quickly apart for the two loans. If only they had said no. I wouldn't be where I am now. My IVA provider rang and asked me if I would continue gambling through the IVA I said no of course.

Is this the death knell for my proposal?

You are seeking professional help and I'm sure with hindsight being the wonderful thing it is have no intention of going back on your word to your IP.

Not gambling for two months is a big achievement and I for one wish you all the best.

Has your IP said anything about the loans or given any indication how creditors might view this?
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Most of my debts including a most recent loan were gambled away.
I applied for an Iva with one month clear of gambling. My IVA was rejected at the creditors meeting, but was told if I could show 6 months clear of gambling (through bank statements) I could apply again with confidence.
I did so and am now 3 months into my IVA so there is a way forward. Hopefully they will accept yours at the first time

That is sounding very positive for the OP. Thank you for sharing that.

Hi

Creditors and your Insolvency Practitioner are more concerned about your ability to stop gambling rather than what has happened to your funds. It is not unusual for people going into IVAs to have recent gambling debts so you are in with a good chance of acceptance if you can show that you have stopped this addiction

Good luck

Regards
Andam Davies

Thanks for the replies. It is a load off my mind that I still maybe accepted. I am such an idiot. Thinking I could claw my debts back. Took me a lot of money (that wasn't mine) to realise.

Exactly my thinking at the time - I'll win it back! It never works!
If an IVA is right for you, gambling won't stop you being accepted. I had the same worries but just had to prove I'd stopped to my IP and most impotlrtantly myself.
Best thing I've ever done, struggling with the budget, but happier than ever and I'll crack that and get there.

I've got no problem in acting for ex-gamblers, so long as they are able to convince me, and thus their creditors, that the habit has been kicked.

Best of luck with your proposal Banquo21, and do let us all know how you get on.
