Today I have been removed from the dreaded Insolvency Register and my six and a half years of struggle are finally over.
I know this isn't the case for everyone out there in IVA land but I just wanted to put a positive post out there for Grant Thornton and their staff. I was originally with Accuma and was transferred to GT. Now anyone with Accuma will know that they were not the best with regards to communication etc but I really can't say that about GT. I made contact with a lovely lady called Victoria who sorted out my reviews every year, listened to my woes and would bend over backwards to be accommodating to my needs. I had a little hiccup at closure in that I made my last payment in April 2013 (six year IVA in lieu of equity)and found out that our case wasn't passed to closures until June. However, since that date, GT have stuck to every promise they made. I always had replies to my emails (never bothered phoning)and when they said I would complete before the end of the year, I did.
I appreciate for those who are banging their heads of the wall with GT this may sound very "oh well jolly hockey sticks for you!" and I know I have been extremely lucky but stick with it. My tip - get a name in the Closures Dept and only email that person. At the end of the day the staff at GT are only doing a job, which I can imagine to be quite stressful at times! From experience I have discovered that ranting doesn't get you very far in life... although I'm sure there are lots of you out there that would disagree with me!
At the end of the day, I got MYSELF into an almighty mess financially. It has been VERY hard and at times felt like it would never end but I have to say it was worth it. My son is hopefully starting university in September and at least now I can help him out without the worry of having to 'rob Peter to pay Paul' to do it.
Today, seeing the Insolvency Register without my name on it, was like a great weight had been lifted. If anyone wants to message me for any advice, feel free to do so. I'm a great believer in spreading knowledge and after all knowledge is power they say!
Good luck to everyone who is starting this journey, in the middle of, or even nearing the end. IT IS worth it!

Great post, thank you for sharing.
I am also with GT and found them to be helpful. I'm now with closures so hoping to get a swift end to my IVA which I know can take unto 6 months. I will check and see if my names of the Insolvency Register now.
It would seem GT have managed to get things sorted lately as I've heard positives about closures so heres hoping...
All the best for the future now your debt free. Its a great feeling I must say [:)]
IVA completed!!! Looking forward to getting my life back! Stay positive and you'll get there in the end.

Thanks for that. All I can say is that once I was in closures it did take the six months. You won't come off the Register until you have received your Completion Certificate though.

hmmmmm I will withhold judgement for now......made last payment end of October, and never heard any news from GT. Thought I would find out what was happening, and got no reply to my email, so rang them yesterday, to be told my final review had failed.....they say that when BE had my case I owed some money from bonuses, but they told me that since my annual income was less than I did have I didn't have to pay. The lady on the phone promised me to send it to be reviewed as a priority, but we shall wait and see......

Before you get to closures you should use This email address:-

IVACustomerServices@uk.gt.com

I always got a reply when I used this, albeit from a different person each time!

Thanks that was the email address I was using, have found that in the last year or so I never get a reply from them. It's infuriating as I work longer hours than their office is open so is so much more easy for me to communicate through email.

I wrote to them last week and got a email within a day saying my review for closure had passed and now its all gone to final closure.
I did however, write to Karol at the main customer service address as advised on other posts putting IVA FORUM in the subject line. Try that and see if you get anything back. Karol is very helpful but you may get an answer from someone else instead.
Hopefully, things will get sorted for you Leigh, I know how frustrating it is with not getting an aster back quickly.
IVA completed!!! Looking forward to getting my life back! Stay positive and you'll get there in the end.

Karol now works for a different division within GT, however, the usual IVA FORUM in the subject line still works, as far as I am aware.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014

The forum is regularly looked at by the IP responsible for the IVA portfolio, his No 2, and the Senior Manager responsible for customer services. Therefore they do keep abreast of grumbles on the forum, and are also pleased to read positive feedback. It is possible that they may appoint a new representative to post on the forum in time - but in the meantime if there are any complaints, do refer them directly to the Customer Services team in house and hopefully they will be resolved.
Regards, Melanie Giles, Insolvency Practitioner
