Hi, I am currently considering an IVA but know nothing about it, my main worry is the effect of my employment, I currently work for the nhs and can expect a random disclosure and barring search done at any time. Will the IVA show on the search? As this will affect my employment and risk my job. But on the other hand I owe so much that I work to pay debts and have nothing at the end of it. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Gibbs, and welcome. What do you do in the NHS? We have many posters employed there with no problems.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.

Hi
What type of job are you in? I understand that on dbs search they put the different job types on the form. But am not totally sure if it would show.
Why dont you contact the dbs helpline just to reassure you
As foggy says lots of people have no problem but id ring the enquiry line to be sure.

This question comes up every now amd then so let us know how you get on

Hi thanks for the replies, I work in administration for a doctors surgery and they have just done a DBS and all is good at the moment, I am just worried that once I get an IVA and they decide to do a random DBS check that it may show on the document and may affect my employment there. It has taken me long enough to find another job and I can't afford to loose this one. However, I'm really struggling every month with keeping up my bills and have has to miss a few each month. Hope this helps as I explained I am new to IVA and don't really understand it much. I have a personal loan which I have 3yrs left out of 5 years to pay off, still owing £12,000. My total debts add upto £20,000. I don't know whether to struggle for another 3years till my loan is paid and things will get better or try make things easier now but add another 2 yrs to my debt paying. Please advise

I wouldn't worry but as I said I dont know for sure. It's not a financial position its that you have access to vulnerable people records. Send the dbs an email though so you arent panicing.

Dealing with your debts is the best thing you can do. Try a couple of firms though theres advice on iva.com as the firms apply rules for expenditure differently and some firms have excellent service and others dont. I was with a big firm and had no real problems but you will see lots of positive comments about michael peoples and melanie giles. You dont have to go with the first firm you talk to.

Good luck and use the forum for support

DBS checks are the new name for CRB checks - so only convicted crimes/barring working with vulnerable groups/ and police cautions should appear

I work in the NHS admim/clerical and have done for years, changed jobs several times too over the years and had no problems what-so-ever. I have been on my IVA 66 down and 5 to go. Its your ability to do the job..I dont have any GCSE's either and that never stopped me either lol..They are only interested in my experience and the fact I have a clean Police check.
IVA complete March 2014 after 6 years.

Hi radish the bit I've always been concerned about is that the employer has to record your type of role oe finance solicitors etc and in old enhanced there is sectiom about anything else relevant to the role and not convictions or cautions etc At the ppolice Constable discretion

I've researched it before and not seen any examples of what could ne relevant. I haven't changef jobs so haven't had to have another one but would have rang them to check of I had

Maybe im over paranoid ! Lol

Hi Gibbs,

I am a nurse in a GP surgery and have had a recent DBS (CRB) check. I have been in my IVA for almost 6 years and been in this employment for 2.5 years. You will have been checked as you have access to vulnerable patient's records and they are looking for any criminal convictions.

I have a copy of my DBS and it has nothing on it about finances.

Hope this helps

Hi all thanks very much for all your advice, really appreciated. Can any one recommend a good company in which I can chat about starting an IVA. In the long run I think that's my only chance of being debt free eventually. Thanks

Hi Gibbs and welcome to the forum :-)

Melanie is on holiday at the moment so is not on the forum, we regularly propose IVAs for people who work within the NHS and we don't usually find it to be a problem for their employment.

You can find our details under ask an expert a question, if you pop your details in either myself or my colleague Tina will contact you to discuss your options in full :-)
Regards Kelly Osadare Debt Advice Manager at www.pjgrecovery.com (host to www.melaniegiles.com.)

PJG Recovery have a free online advice channel at www.debtadvicetv.com. If you are ready to ask us for specific advice or help, then get in touch at www.pjgrecovery.com/contact-us.asp . I look forward to speaking to you.

Welcome to the forum!
I work for the NHS as a nurse and was told by union an iva wouldnt be an issue. As for a good company...one name always stands out more than another and her colleague has not long posted on here ;-) you cant lose by giving them a call and talking things through!

There are plenty of NHS staff in IVAs and we have doctors, support staff, nurses etc. You have nothing to worry about.
