I'm with Milner Boardman. I have gambled for 10+ years, and not just small amounts. I looked at gambling as a short term way to erradicate the debt it caused, a typical gambler.
I haven't gambled since September, and in all honesty I feel more happy now, because I can see a structured way out of debt rather than a short term chance it may work out on the turn of a card. I realise this is probably my last chance to put debt and the habit behind me.
In all honesty I had geared myself up for this IVA and was content with the structure, albeit hard, it would bring, and at the moment am confused which way to turn as am being prodded towards a DMP recomended by the firm.
Without knowing the mechanics of the process it's hard to decide on the correct course of action going forward. But I truthfully believe it will not involve gambling. Apologies for rambling
Are they going to do the DMP for you in-house, or refer you to another company? My personal view is that the stricter discipline associated with the IVA, and accountability to your IP, will help you to overcome the habit and not succumb you to potential temptation which might exist in a DMP - however that is just a personal view.
It's a shame about your IVA being rejected but why not have a word with another company or two in the interim, Melanie may be a good person to talk to?
At least by having a chat you'll know your options from another company and be able to move forward. All the best.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
Referring me to an outside company. I'm from just outside Wrexham. In terms of beating it, all I can say is I'm doing everything I can do to not gamble again, and in all honesty I've had no urge whilst concentrating on sorting out my finances. And I can honestly say ghat will continue. I need to weigh up all my options
