Well I would be very interested in knowing who these evil people are who call -they called again today and my daughter answered the phone asked who was calling they answered Debt Advisory Service -she then told the man I was at work at which point he started asking her if she knew what a mess I had got us into and getting very aggressive with her -she answered yes she did know as we talk (bless her) but he continued to be very abusive shouting and aggressive - my daughter eventually told him to go away in the way a 16 year old would !!! I cannot believe there are people out there who are willing to act in this way - I am definitely going to try and find out who this is as I am sure I could complain -i know this is my own doing but I think this behaviour is despicable. She isn't picking the phone up again !!!!
That is a serious breach of data protection and a strong complaint would be made to the information commissioner if it was me.

Help please - Just had a call from a number I didn't know -said they were a debt advisory firm -telling me the bailiffs would be calling tomorrow !!!! I'm in the process of an IVA with my meeting on the 17th July -haven't even had a CCJ to date - only missed this months payment on all debts -token payments made and I know they are all now aware of the IVA since 29th June, is this a debt firm trying it on or should I be worried as my daughter is in on her own tomorrow. They were very nasty.
I believe Bailiff's only enforce court debt, so a CCJ would be needed. Probably mean Debt Collectors, who have no legal powers whatsoever.

You need to contact your phone provider and ask them to either block that number to your line or supply you the company information of that number so you can take legal action against them. It is not normal practise for Debt collection agencies to take this sort of aggressive stance and something just doesn't ring true about the validity of who they say they are. It may also be prudent to talk to the 'real' debt advisory service outlining the phone calls and them stating they are from the D. A. S.. There number is 08000 191 278 or email them at enquiries@debtadvisoryservice.co.uk I am sure they will be happy to assist you.
Last Payment made 04/12/14. Completion Certificate 25/7/15. IVA company GT. No Issues
Well latest and hopefullyl last update -another phone call and I took the call they were the Debt Advisory Bureau Service -government backed !!! I was as nice as pie to begin with and they wanted to help me out as they knew that who I was using were not working in my best interests and they could help me out better - i asked if they had been in touch before they said no ( lies as it was the same number ) eventually after they got very angry as I wouldn't listen to them I asked to speak to the guys supervisor and surprise surprise the line went dead ! How awful !!!
I have been getting calls from that number for months. One ofmy house phone doesn't show up numbers so I've answered a few. It's a scam. They always say they are the debt advisory service and want to help me, my iva ended last year and I received my closure cert a few weeks back and I have no debt. They are really hard to get rid of so I hang up straight away or occasionally shout when they start getting pushy. It is a call centre I. India.
A few helpful facts for such cases as this.
Most threats of bailiffs over the phone are usually just pressure tactics by "Debt Collectors" who are not bailiffs and have no powers of entry or seizure.
Bailiffs have a court order but cannot enter your home on the first visit unless by peacable means (open door etc)But Official Court Bailiffs are allowed to force their way into your home to collect unpaid criminal fines, Income Tax or Stamp Duty, but only as a last resort.
Neither of them can "Force" an entry any attempt to do so you should ring the police and tell them someone is forcing thier way into your home.
This is a definate pressure scam tell them to go for a long walk off a short pier.
These people are the lowest of the low. If you can trace them it might be worth complaining to the date commissioner as they seem to be in serious breach of date protection giving information to your daughter anyway.
I`ve had the ringer switched off on my phone for donkey`s years now, initially because I work nights but also because of the onslaught in relatively recent years of cold calling.
All I do is look at the missed call log and if I see a number I recognise I call it back, otherwise I just delete it.
All the people that know me have my mobile number and they generally call that if they need me.

Just to update after yesterday's fiasco and asking to speak to a supervisor we have not had call today !!!! Thank you all for your advice I can imagine without this forum I would have been at my wits end and very frightened ,
Like you Goosed I haven't had my ringer on for years either. From when we applied for the iva and had all those creditor calls. Family and friends soon got in the habit of phoning the mobile.
