I assume that the gambling was discussed prior to the IVA starting so your IP was aware there was a problem? Hopefully they will be understanding enough to help you through this. GA can help and will help, you really just have to grind things out,but ask yourself whats the point of struggling through an IVA because of gambling debts etc only to get to the end and find that you suddenly have a surplus amount every month, could you resist the urge to gamble it? If you dont get the gambling fully controlled the IVA may well just end up being a time waster, and its a tough thing to go through to find that in 3 years time you need help again.
I guess what I am trying to say is that if you can sort the gambling out then the IVA will take care of itself, given a decent IP. You may have to give some reassurances that another lapse will not occur, especially if you are going to need a bit of help from your IP to sort out the payday loans. How much are the loans for now,as we all know how fast they can spiral out of control??

Discharged today the 8th feb 2012. View is much brighter now.
Continuing to rebuild our credit worthiness.
The payday lenders should not be lending to anyone who is in an IVA. They have a duty to check this out, and they have failed you in that duty and assisted you to get into the mess you are now in.
Don't expect your IP to be too sympathetic - if you were my client I would have to question whether you should still benefit from the privilege that an IVA affords. It may be time to draw a line under the whole process, if you cannot stick by the rules and effectively use the IVA as an unauthorised overdraft to fund your habit.
Sorry if this sounds harsh, but an IVA is supposed to be the ultimate chance to deal with your debts, and on this occasion this seems to have failed you. But either way attack the elephant in the room, and get that gambling habit under control.
Thanks for all your help & advice. I have now passed all finances onto my wife for a while. I will contact the payday lenders & put them in the picture in the morning. I dont believe I am using the IVA as an unauthorised overdraft. I have paid in well over £30,000 which included a lot of extra income payments.
I appreciate I am in the wrong & will see what happens. I am finding it very hard to risk contacting the IP.
I to was a gambling addict,i used many online sites over a period of 10 years amassing a huge debt..i knew i had to stop but could not trust myself with money the temptation was huge.It took all my courage to tell my partner and i felt very ashamed however we came up with a plan.
All of my wages were paid directly into her account..if you have no money you can not gamble simple from then on i had an iva set up which i have now completed.Hard to give up control of your own finances but saved me..no doubt about that.
It does not need to be your partners account could be parents, bro or sis but someone you can trust.During my iva i had many urges to gamble to control these i joined a gym and worked out it takes your mind off it completley. This approach worked for me i am now debt free and back in control of my money. good luck pal
Another one here who got into this mess through gambling. And as debtonator says telling my wife was the hardest part. The IVA did give me a new start and I generally have it under control since, albeit with a few minor lapses here and there.
For me the temptation come when I have nothing to do and there is sports on TV. I have cancelled sky sports and taken up a hobby. I now play golf regularly (for example Saturday afternoon when lots of sports on). Even in the evening I will go to the driving range or chipping green.
Good luck and find something to keep you busy. Any one you can borrow off to get you back on track and hence not upset the IVA, after over 3 years it would be terrible shame for it to fail now.
Since reading this thread I've noticed the amount of betting advertisements on TV. £10 Free, £30 Free etc., it can't be free really I'm guessing but temptation is everywhere if you are addicted. Well done to all who've kicked the habit and to the OP you'll get there. Hope all is ok?
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
Yes I to have noticed the amount of Bingo and other gambling that is advertised on T.V. have never been tempted myself but must be a temptation for some. Also you have to ask why payday lenders will lend to people in IVA. At the end of the day when you enter an IVA you have to stick to the rules as we all know is not always easy.
