I use a first reserve account with NatWest that has a debit card, they are withdrawing the debit cards on this type of account so I applied for a current account but got declined, where can I get an account with a debit card (Lloyds group etc no good as iva with them)

Co-Op are a good bet with their Cashminder Account.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.

Nationwide cash card. Don't be fooled by it's name, it's a debit card as well, full banking facilities in branch, on line and monthly statements. And costs not a bean! No overdraft of course but good job too.

I still have mine nearly 2 years post IVA no reason to change

Natwest say ....In processing your application, we carried out our standard searches and found bankruptcy information registered in your name. Unfortunately we cannot open an account for someone in your position until we see confirmation that the Bankruptcy Order has been officially discharged

Is that right if I'm in an iva, I've never been or have any bankruptcy just an iva??

Coop say on their website.... Please note, we do not accept applications from undischarged bankrupts.

So is being in an iva a undischarged bankrupt, if not why has NatWest said this? I don't understand?!

Nat west computers don't recognise IVA's and lump it all as BR. You need to speak to a person!

Co-Op cashminders are rarely refused to IVA'ers, so should be OK.

I've been with natwest all through IVA. So glad they didn't discover my IVA
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

I agree with Sponge, the Nationwide Cash+ account is a good choice if they aren't one of your creditors.

I'm with secure trust. Whilst you do get charged for the account, its £ 2.90 a week, it does give you online banking, no bank charges if a DD or SO bounces (never happened in my case), phone banking and your card is a mastercard as well....... but you cant use it at pay at the pump fuel...., friendly staff, generally good service...

I'm with Thinkmoney and although you pay a fee, your card is a mastercard and their customer service is second to none.
Life after IVA is wonderful.

unfortunately the mainstream banks are going to slowly withdraw certain functionality to basic accounts. Coop is an account that is highly recommended and should be looked in to. As lillyray and wiggle1 state, alternatives are available such as Secure Trust, Thinkmoney and also ClearCash - the beauty with these is that they do give bank account functionality. Yes there is a fee to bear in mind but do weigh all of the options up

I moved to Think Money and they have been fabulous, I pay a fee but am happy to do so for the service and the splitting of my account so that my bills are always paid and I will never get any fees or bounced payments.
Last payment December 2019! OMG!

I've heard a lot of positive reviews about the Think Money account especially with their customer care - another important factor

We got our Natwest current account before we entered into our IVA as they were not one of our creditors. We were given the Basic Account and use that for all our banking. However, I need to use cheques and that account doesn't offer a cheque book so I applied to upgrade the account to a Select Account, with a cheque book, and it was given to us without any problems (whilst we were in the IVA).
