Huge congrats and well done abbiesmum, it was my birthday yesterday but I was still thinking of you and hoping your meeting would go well! Kept popping onto the forum to check! The extra day of waiting was well worth it, we've just made our first payment into our IVA and the relief is fantastic. Never be ashamed as you have faced up to your problems and handled them in the best way possible xx

Do not feel ashamed. You are paying as much back as possible.

Congratulations. As the others say don't be ashamed - life throws lots of obstacles our way and we have to deal with things the best we can. I can't believe that I am coming up to my fifth year in my IVA. My best tip is to set up a spreadsheet so you know how much is going out each month and where it is going. Good luck x

Fantastic result at last. You have been very brave accepting yr situation. I too did the same as you. Consolidating loans etc. it made the situation worse. I have now finished my Iva. Waiting for my cert. one day you will post that out and you will both be very proud at what you have achieved. Raising my glass to you both x
5 years done and dusted. Certificate received.

Well done from me also

I can only echo what everyone above has said. Like your hubby i felt incredibly ashamed also . I also consolidated umpteen times and made my mess even worse!! If only I had cut up my credit cards & been given hindsight as a gift earlier in life

Good news is despite a few hiccups (one of them major ) I made it to the end , am now debt free and have a superb creit rating ; this will happen to you both as well and the end Is at least now in sight , whereas before , I'm sure like me you couldn't see how you would ever get everything paid off ...... Well you can now eh !

The icing on the cake which you may not relise yet , is that you have picked on of the best , if not the bet IVA provider in the marketplace and my forum experience enables me to say you will be well looked after by Mel & her team

Best wishes and good luck
Last payment made April 2012
Certificate received 1st Nov 2012

yes mel it does mean alot to us. The difference it will make to our girls lives is going to be amazing. we knowvits going to be tight but to be able to get them a little treat for excellent school report for example will make all the difference to them. Im not as ashamed as hubby but hes come round to it the more weve been talking and to call him today with news he was so relieved and happy. We are looking at it as a 5 year loan. Feel that way we will manage payments and plod through. It will be just another monthly outgoing just like mortgage. Im expecting first hurdle soon as car due service and mot but weve been putting money away while waiting for acceptance so should be fine!!! Thanks for all your support.

Congratulations on your iva being passed...what a relief...can I ask if you don't mind how long the whole process took...We've had our meeting date given to us verbally just waiting for the written confirmation ... just having a few wobbles we've chosen the right company .. wish I'd found this forum before we started the process :(

A sensible way of viewing an IVA is to think of it as the ultimate consolidation loan, which is paid off after five years - and definately nothing to be ashamed of.

Smiler - it is never too late to change your mind if you feel you have made a bad decision. Five years is a long time to regret not spending a little more time on your research up front.

It is the ultimate consolidation loan and last one we are ever going to have! thank you mel!

smiler..ive just replied on your own thread! freaky huh!! its taken a while as we changed firms and started a fresh with mels team after recommendation from forum. Then i had a baby in feb which also led to a slight delay!!! there is a legal time the companys have to give banks so you can always expect a couple of weeks notice of the meeting no matter who you go with. Be sure now though and dont just go with first choice. big decision and need it right from the start. shop around now...you would for anything else you were 'buying' so do so for this! i know you want to get it sorted but honestly now isthe time to take your time and do it right. it maybe you are with who you evebtually do go with but always best to consult others too. i was desperate to get going but it does take time to get figures right! weve gone over and over them but we are certain weve done right thing with the right team. good luck and look forward to getting to know you.

Aww thanks abbiesmum..tbh I am a born worrier and know after reading other posts that proposals don't get put forward unless the company are confident it'll be approved and on that score we're more than happy with the figure put forward .. and will b ecstatic if and when it's finally approved. Will c what tomorrow's post brings and fingers crossed our ip returns our call.... think I'm driving my hubby mad :)

Im the same! worry worry worry! lol!! ive driven hubby mad...but made a change from pregnancy talk for a while!!! Im sure your fine and if you are happy with figures then stick with it. I was worrying about how we'd afford it but kept reminding myself the figure we are paying is less than what we were paying on just one of our many debts and up til Dec we had made all payments on time as well as covered bills/shopping so logic says we can afford it! I worried creditors would decline but it was our best offer and more than theyd get if we went BR so in their best interests to agree. Good luck!
