Hi Ryan, as per the forum, would you be able to give some guidance on my question?

We are in the midst of applying for a mortgage. I say we, however due to my IVA history (completed in 2011) we have decided that the mortgage and title deeds will be in my husbands name only. Our mortgage broker has stated that only a few will accept this and not credit check me, particulary no high street banks will allow this, but having just spoken to my bank, RBS, they said thats a lot of nonsense and of course we could have a mortgage in my husbands name only.

Many thanks,

Kate.07

It's true that most lenders won't allow married applicants to apply in a sole name so whoever you spoke to at RBS wasn't reflecting the market in general. That said it may still be possible for you to obtain a joint mortgage, depending on the amount of deposit that you can put down and also precisely when your IVA was registered.

That's worrying to read - I've been BR and hubby is a self employed handyman so I don't think we've got a hope of getting another mortgage!

Good luck Kate, let us know how you get on x

Hi Skippy,

Halifax have come up trumps and given us, well my husband a mortgage, in his name only without the need to credit check me or the like. RBS were happy to give us a mortgage on this basis too but their rate was slightly higher than Halifax, so Halifax it is.

There is hope out there!

Kate.

That's good news Mrs S! We're settled at the moment but who knows in the future!

IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
