I have an IVA which is almost settled. I have paid the sum of £15,000 kindly donated by my father last year. I have been advised that the IVA will be settled in April. The IVA was started about 2 years ago. I would like to apply for a job as a collections advisor, but I am unsure if I will be asked about having an IVA on the app or at the interview. If this is the case, I expect I needn't bother to apply. Thank you for your help.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I've no idea if you will be asked about this - you could always make an anonymous call and ask if an IVA will be a problem.

Hi Caroline.sj and welcome.

I think that if you make an anonymous call it may feed the interviewers tactics to raise the issue of debt when they may not of even thought of it. My personal experience of this is that when I was in deep dodo and in tenuous application for an IVA, I applied for an important job with a major company. The interview was long and very testing and not once did any of the panel mention debt or indeed if I had any such problems at all. Frankly it's none of their business at that stage and therefore most unlikely that the topic will arise.

I got the job and two and a half years down the line am doing very well. IVA was accepted 6 mths into the job and still no one is aware as indeed they don't need to be. Everyone above me is pleased with my efforts unaware and probably uninterested of my life behind the job.

Go for it and have a good positive interview and know that by advancing your career you will be out of this mess for good. Good luck!

There is nothing to stop you asking for the application form and giving it a good read through.

Good idea. Get an application form and check it through. Also as Blaster says, even at interview stage, I doubt the question would be asked. There are very few jobs that an IVA gets in the way of - and I suggest a collections advisor is not one of them. Go for it and good luck!
