Hi, I have just been informed that my energy supplier, Atlantic on 15th Oct are increasing my gas by 9%, my electric by 9% and all their customers will now have to pay a standing charge of £100 per service a year,I'm dual fuel so £200 for me!!! Marvellous... so have been getting quotes to change suppliers, most of which are a fixed price for 1 or 2 years which would make me feel slightly less vulnerable than I'm feeling at the moment.....I'm worried they will refuse to take me on, are they likely to credit check me? I have never, ever missed a payment/been late or anything like that with my household bills/mortgage and I have successfully renewed my pet, house and car insurance whilst in my IVA so hopefully all will be ok but could there be a problem, as there is far more money involved with these energy bills then my insurances...!! Im getting slightly miffed off at the moment with constant rising costs in EVERYTHING!!!
Thanks

That's not good - I'm with them as well but I've heard nothing from them yet!! I'm also dual fuel so not looking forward to that.

I'll be looking around as well - hopefully you'll be able to find someone. Let us know as I'm sure a few of us will be watching anxiously.

Yes they do credit check, we tried to change to British Gas a few years ago before we were in an IVA and the only way they would take us was if we gave them a £250 deposit first we would get back after 6 months if we always paid on time! because we failed the credit check.

I tried to change supplier for gas and electric a couple of years ago and was turned down even though no missed or late payments but at the end of last year I successfully changed to m & s energy and got vouchers for doing so with a few pounds of credit on the account, so definitely worth having a look around.

Happy hunting!!

Yikes i havent got any spare money for a 'deposit'...oh well I suppose I can only try.... I want to pay a fixed direct debit so they would be paid on time but I suppose they would have other worries and issues about an insolvent like myself! Right, mission accepted and I had better write off my 1 day off tomorrow sorting this out.....fingers crossed they are all in a good mood cos its a Friday!!!

It shouldn't hurt to try, do let us know how you get on. I'm with Scottish Power and read something the other day about price rises...it's neverending isn't it? x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

I've applied through confused.com after hearing the news that Southern Electric (SSE) will be increasing prices by up to 10%. They came back with a fixed price dual fuel deal with Scottish Power which will save me £360!.

I've applied so wait and see..

I've also emailed SSE and stated how angry I was with the increases due to kick in just in time for Winter!. Hmmm...another kick in the teeth for struggling families. Well, I 've had enough and will shop around for cheaper deal. The more of us do that it might make them think twice about those sudden price hikes.

Hi. I tried to change to Scottish Power and was turned down, but was successful with EDF. My 2yr deal finishes soon, and I'm transferring to the Blue tariff - one of the best deals around, so I'll stay with them. Good luck to you
IVA journey started: 30th March 2009. Settled: 17th July 2012. Completion Certificate received: 13th March 2013. Breathe. x

I was with BG when my IVA started but they did their usual and closed my account even though I was £80 in credit and openend another account for us at the standard tariff even though I was on a better one duel fuel / paperless statements etc.
So I changed to Scottish Power with no problems at all, even got a tariff with my prices fixed till 2015 which was brill as I dont have to worry about price hikes now until a month before our IVA ends.
If life is what you make it, I must have been in a strange mood when I made mine

I looked on the website last night and watched the interview on Youtube. It mentioned the rises but nothing about the standing charge. It did say that these increases would be frozen until the secobd half of next year.

my two penneth worth !!

Im with EDF & my fixed rate ends in 10 days time

Ive switched over to their BLUE tariff, which informs you by email at anythime through the cotract they find a competitor cheaper . not sure if they price match if they do find a cheaper competitor but they allow you yo leave at any time without payment of a penalty

They were also very competitive when using the price comparison sites of uswitch & tescocompare

FYI British Gas on the comparison sites 2 weeks ago where thE dearest in the market

I think im following in the footsteps of my late father, who we ( and himself ) always said was a font of useless information !!
