QUESTION FOR KAROL AT GRANT THORNTON - I PAID MY FULL AND FINAL SETTLEMENT IN SEPTEMBER 2011 FOR AN IVA THAT STARTED IN JULY 2006. I HAVE CHASED AND CHASED AND CHASED FOR A DATE FOR WHEN I WILL RECEIVE MY CLOSURE DOCUMENTS BUT I AM NOT GETTING ANYWHERE. I WAS TOLD I AM OWED AN REFUND DUE TO THE VAT SCENARIO WHICH I WILL WAIVE AS I AM DESPERATE TO GET THE DOCUMENTS THROUGH SO I CAN APPLY FOR A MORTGAGE. I WAS TOLD MY DOCUMENTS WOULD BE WITH ME LATEST MID-END OF JUNE BUT STILL NOTHING. I JUST WANT AN HONEST ANSWER AS TO WHEN I WILL RECEIVE MY DOCUMENTS. I HAVE A 3 YEAR OLD SON AND A WIFE AND I AM NOT SURE IF WE WILL BE RENTING OR I CAN CRACK ON WITH THE MORTGAGE APPLICATION. I HAVE BEEN PATIENT AND MADE ALL MY PAYMENTS ON TIME AND ALL I WANT IS SOME INFORMATION SO I CAN PLAN MY and my FAMILY'S FUTURE NOW THE IVA IS NEAR THE END. THANKS

Have you contacted Karol directly via this email:

ivacustomerservices@uk.gt.com and ensure that "IVA Forum" is all that is entered in the subject line of the email.

Once she sees that I'm sure she will get in touch.

Thanks for the reply. I have done this and got a reply from closures saying that a payment needs to be made to the creditors and this can only be done on a certain date each month and this date has passed in July! I have lost faith with the system and this chasing for the closure is actually more stressful than being in the IVA itself. If I knew about this I would have gone down the bankruptcy route. I am that desperate to get my documents that I waived a £720 refund to speed things up. I am sick of being fobbed off and false promises. With the ppi, Barclays and Natwest debacles I have lost all faith. I even got a letter from egg who were included in my iva saying I still owe them over £1000! I just want the iva to be removed so I can get a mortgage approved. I know I am ranting but GT have made my life miserable over the last few weeks when I should be overjoyed at being debt free and moving on with my life. If I miraculously receive my closure documents in August or September it will be a year since I made my final payment. This can't be right

Hi Owa, I made my final payment to my IVA company in April 2011. I have only just received my completion paperwork at the beginning of June as they were waiting for a VAT refund which has to go to the creditors! It was then a pain to get it removed off my credit file but finally today it was now been removed. The relief is incredible. I no exactly how you feel. I had to get DEMSA involved in the end to assist in getting my completion paperwork. Not sure if your IP has DEMSA as a trading body though! Good luck and hope you get it sorted soon! I would definitely query with your IP about Egg as if it is included in your IVA they should be contacting you directly!

Sorry Owa..that should say that Egg should not be contacting you directly if it is included in your IVA.

Thanks Helena. To be honest after the last few days nothing surprises me anymore and the letter I received from egg just added fuel to the fire. I work in a customer service driven industry and I can't believe with all the advances in technology that these delays still occur and people are waiting for over 12 months for a piece of paper that gives us a chance to start our lives again and to move on.

No they didn't tell me. It should be between the 1st and 9th as they told me that this months cut off has been missed. Make sure you persist and grind them down otherwise nothing will be done. I hope I am not offending anyone with my comments but this is why these forums are set up - to discuss issues and to see if anyone can help. To me GT need to get their act together and put themselves in their clients shoes. Sorry but I am livid at the moment. Can't disappoint my family any longer and looks like our dream apartment is slipping away due to this delay...

Your query is a perfectly reasonable one, and hopefully Karol will be able to get you a better answer than the one you have been provided with so far. A firm the size of GT must be effecting distributions to creditors more often than once per month surely?

Hi

It really isn't good enough, let's hope this is picked up by Grant Thornton and dealt with.

GT confirmed yesterday in another post that they distribute on a monthly basis.

Thanks for all your advice guys. I am going to persist with this and be proactive otherwise nothing will be done. I got my latest experian credit file yesterday and it shows a score of nearly 900. All the defaults have disappeared any the only negative is the iva which will hamper our chances of getting a mortgage. It's a shame that you wait for the light at the end of the tunnel and big firms like GT block that light and put a dampener on it all. I will keep you posted on what happens but I would advise anyone in a similar situation to put some pressure on. We shouldn't have to be doing this but like the saying goes "if you need something done well do it yourself"

Hi owa! You may be wise to ask Ryan on this forum for advice re a mortgage as from what I have read banks etc dig deep and may see that you have had an iva even though it is not on your credit file! Good luck with getting your certificate! I'm not sure how all this works but we received our certificates last month and only completed in Feb! :)

I am sure that they do effect monthly distributions, but surely this means that they pay creditors monthly and not just make one distribution to all creditors each month? Perhaps Karol could clarify this point?
