My wife and I have just got married and prior to us getting married she entered into an IVA where she paid off 85p in the pound. This has now been completed. We would now like to open a joint bank account. will we be able to. we will only want to open a basic current account to deal with our daily finances.

Hi there. If you are only after a basic account a fairly safe bet would be to go for the Co-Op Cashminder. Many of us in IVA;s have them ... decent online access, pay in at post offices if no branch nearby and always friendly and helpful on the phone.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014

In your shoes I'd probably wait until the six year mark when the iva has Allen off her credit file as your credit rating could drop significantly by association.

Ifshe has passed the six year point, go for it!

There is no reason not to and if it's a basic account you want without any credit facilities it shouldn't be an issue. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Hi Roger. In my experience you may struggle, it will depend on the Bank involved. When I entered into an IVA I had a joint account with my wife which was frozen due to an overdraft of 20 quid. I had to be removed from account. This was 7yrs ago but the said bank will still not let me open a joint account with my good lady. Good luck
