I've got a basic account and a full Flex account with Nationwide and I have to say I'm happy with them. To be honest I preferred the Co-op but as I had a pre-BR full current account with Nationwide it seemed pointless not to use it.

Does the nationwide CashCard+ allow online debit card transaction from overseas especially USA as I buy a few DVDs from Amazon US? As it says online it cant be used for overseas ATMS but doesnt say whether it can be used for online overseas?

No idea, we only buy things from the UK Amazon. If we buy anything from overseas we tend to use sites that take Paypal.

If this calamity shows anything at all, it's how we all have become so dependent on banks that when a system goes down lives are affected so dramatically. Here's a thought, when we miss a payment we get exorbitant charges (plus interest). Why dont people affected quote Natwest, RBS late payment policy back to them and claim the same. The reaction and spin the banks put on it would be "interesting" (sorry no pun intended)

Natwest will ensure nobody is out of pocket and are planning to repay any charges (according to an email I received).

I do feel we're dependant on banks as within an IVA I live week by week (hubby's wages) for my housekeeping. I've no savings as such apart from a few quid that if necessary I could access.

I'd have been relying on daughters boyfriend for a sub if hubby's wages hadn't gone in. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

It's not only the banks though with computers - we all rely on them these days and when they go pear shaped then we all suffer.

As to the banks - there have been some horror stories on the news this morning. One woman resorted to shoplifting and the police actually had a whip round for her so she had some money to buy food.

I feel if you've no friends/family to turn to when in crisis you've not a lot!

Lesley, i take your point about Natwest repaying charges which i beleive they are obliged to do anyway. Just thought it would be fair if others affected imposed the same charges as the bank do for late payments- transactions. Good to read that you personally weren't inconvenienced too much.

This is a complete dogs dinner NatWest. Why is it going on for so long?

Hope they get it all sorted out sooner rather than later for anyone waiting for money into their bank accounts from NatWest. Also hope NatWest sort out any Third Party bank charges as a result of them not paying in on time.
We're willing to wipe the slate clean, give you a fresh start. All that we're asking in return is your cooperation.

Yes i agree we are totally reliant on technology, i know i would be lost without my computer.

As to the story of the woman shoplifting just proves my point of how the banks and their foul-ups mess with peoples lives, tragic in the extreme.

We would be lost without ours as well - we are all now too reliant on computers - all of our banking is done online, we contact friends online and of course there are the forums as well!!

Going back to sjbyron's post, you would need to check with Nationwide whether the card can be used on US sites. I only ever buy from Amazon UK.

We're still waiting for hubby's wages to go in from Friday.....no sign of them yet, and when I spoke to Natwest they say at least Monday afternoon.....we have direct debits getting returned left right and centre!
Like many others we live from week to week, as my monthly salary goes on mortgage etc.....so we have been left with no money......we're not actually with Natwest, we're with Lloyds, and when i rang them to ask if they could add an emergency overdraft, of course they said no!!! It's times like this when the banks should help people out.
I just hope they sort this out, and my salary on weds goes in otherwise we will be in trouble...I knew Natwest say that no one will be out of pocket, but it's not good enough really.
